Football Math Worksheets and Games: What's Actually Free
James Kelly · Aug 19, 2026

Three sites give away football-friendly math worksheets with no paywall at all: Math-Drills, Common Core Sheets, and K5 Learning. On Teachers Pay Teachers, a search for football math returns more than 5,700 results, and the free-only filter cuts that to roughly 390; the paid resources on the first page ran $3.00 to $10.00 in August 2026, with a median of $4.00. Education.com will show you a football worksheet for free, but the answer key is Premium-only.
The gap between free to browse and free to use is where most parents and teachers lose an hour. Below is what each source actually hands you, by skill and by real cost.
Which football math worksheets are actually free
- Free to use, not a free trial. Math-Drills hosts over 70,000 free math worksheets and says every sheet has been free to use with students since it launched in 2005 (Math-Drills). Common Core Sheets offers free math worksheets and activities for teachers, parents, and homeschoolers, and its August 2026 update alone added 487 new worksheets (Common Core Sheets).
- Free with an optional upgrade. K5 Learning's kindergarten through grade 6 printables are free with answers on the second page, and the $24-per-year membership is optional: members skip ads and unlock exclusive features (K5 Learning).
- Freemium, so read the fine print. Education.com support states that answer sheets are available to Premium members (Education.com Support). Premium lists at $15.99 a month, or $9.99 a month billed annually ($119.88 a year); in August 2026 the site was discounting those to $8.00 and $5.00 a month (Education.com Pricing). YummyMath posts free sample activities, then charges $35 a year with no auto-renewal for 400-plus real-world tasks for grades 3 to 12 (YummyMath).
- Marketplace. Teachers Pay Teachers has the deepest football-themed selection, and its free filter is the fastest shortcut here: roughly 390 of the 5,700-plus football math results cost nothing (TPT free results).
One caution on themed collections: Education.com's football-tagged worksheets run from kindergarten to about fourth grade, with coloring pages next to the math. Past fourth grade, a general fluency site plus a football context you supply yourself goes further.

One disclosure: LitZone is our own product. It heads the table because its teacher portal is genuinely free, which is the standard this post holds everything else to; the family plan is not, and the Cost column says so.
| Resource | Best for | Grade fit | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| LitZone | Daily reading and math tied to real NFL stats | 2-8, ages 8-13 | Free teacher portal; family plans from $13.99 per month |
| Math-Drills | Fact fluency and operations drills | K-8, number sense to pre-algebra | Free, 70,000-plus sheets |
| Common Core Sheets | Standards-tagged practice and graphing | K-8 | Free |
| K5 Learning | Word problems with answer keys | K-6 | Free, optional $24 per year |
| Education.com | Themed printables; football set is K-4 | Pre-K to 8 | Free to browse, Premium from $15.99 per month for answer keys |
| YummyMath | Real-world sports and current-events tasks | 3-12 | $35 per year, free samples |
| Teachers Pay Teachers | Football-themed packs and review games | Preschool-12 | Roughly 390 free, median paid price $4.00 |
Match the sports math printables to the skill
- Fact fluency, grades 2-4. Football scoring is built for skip counting. A touchdown plus the extra point is 7, a field goal is 3, and a safety is 2, so asking for every combination that reaches 20 becomes a drill kids argue about.
- Integers and the number line, grades 5-7. Down and distance is signed arithmetic. A 7-yard sack followed by a 12-yard gain is negative 7 plus 12, and chasing a first down forces students to track a moving zero.
- Fractions, decimals, and percents, grades 4-7. Completion percentage, third-down conversion rate, and yards per carry are division problems with decimal answers a football kid already cares about.
- Data, graphing, and averages, grades 3-8. Take one running back's weekly rushing yards, plot them, then find the mean, median, and range. Comparing two players turns it into an argument students defend with numbers. Super Bowl math activities run the same skills on one game's real numbers.
- Multi-step problems, grades 6-8. The NFL passer rating formula runs four separate rate calculations, caps each one, then sums and scales the result, which makes it an honest order-of-operations challenge.
Why one-off free football worksheets fade fast
When researchers reviewed ten popular study techniques, only two earned a high-utility rating: practice testing and distributed practice. Rereading and highlighting landed in the low-utility group (Dunlosky et al., Psychological Science in the Public Interest, 2013). The federal practice guide Organizing Instruction and Study to Improve Student Learning makes spacing its first recommendation, backed by moderate evidence, and advises reviewing key content after a delay of several weeks to several months (Institute of Education Sciences).
Translated for a kitchen table: ten football math problems on Tuesday and ten more next Tuesday beat a 40-problem packet on one Saturday. A printable does one Tuesday; a subscription site like YummyMath or a season-long program like LitZone is what supplies the second, sixth and twentieth. That is also why the NFL calendar is a useful hook: it supplies a season of fresh, real numbers instead of one themed worksheet a kid uses once and forgets. That is the premise behind fantasy football for kids built around math and learning.
The stakes are not abstract. In 2024, 39 percent of fourth graders performed at or above NAEP Proficient in mathematics, 3 percentage points higher than 2022 but still 2 points lower than 2019 (The Nation's Report Card).
Football math games and digital options
Most sports-math apps a parent finds first were not built for children. ESPN Fantasy Sports and More carries a 13+ App Store rating and lists Frequent Contests, Advertising, and Messaging and Chat among its content descriptors (Apple App Store). Yahoo Fantasy Sports is rated 18+ and lists Gambling, Advertising, Messaging and Chat, and User-Generated Content (Apple App Store). Those ratings tell you what the products assume: adult money and adult chat.
For general fluency, Prodigy Math Game is rated 4+ and free to download with in-app purchases, though its theme is fantasy role-playing, not football (Apple App Store). If you want the football hook to carry the practice, LitZone is built for that loop for ages 8 to 13, on the App Store, Google Play, or in a browser at play.litzonesports.com: kids draft real NFL players and must finish Common Core-aligned reading and math challenges, leveled to each student's reading band, to earn upgrades and win stat-based matchups. It is COPPA and FERPA compliant with no ads, no chat or direct messages, and no comments, and the free teacher portal adds class rosters, standards-based progress dashboards, and printable leveled texts.
A hybrid costs almost nothing: print free sheets for the shaky skill, buy a TPT pack for a ready-made Friday game, and let a season-long program handle the daily repetition worksheets never survive. Teachers who want the whole thing structured can run a classroom fantasy football league.
Football math worksheets FAQ
Where can I find free football math worksheets?
Start with the free-only filter on Teachers Pay Teachers, which returns roughly 390 football math resources at no cost, then fill the gaps with Math-Drills for fact fluency and Common Core Sheets for standards-tagged practice. Both are free outright rather than trials that expire. K5 Learning is the best free source for word problems that already include answer keys.
Are football math games better than worksheets?
For retention, frequency matters more than format. Distributed practice and practice testing were the two techniques rated high utility in the 2013 review of learning strategies, so a game that pulls a student back three times a week usually beats a richer worksheet used once. Games and season-long apps also keep generating new problems, which is the argument for pairing free printables from Math-Drills with something that refreshes itself weekly, whether that is YummyMath's real-world tasks or LitZone's live NFL stat lines.
What grades do football math worksheets work best for?
Grades 2 through 8 is the sweet spot. Younger students use scoring for addition and skip counting, middle-elementary students use yards and averages for multiplication, division, and decimals, and middle schoolers handle percentages, integers, and multi-step rate formulas.
How much do football math packs cost on TPT?
In August 2026, the paid resources on the first page of a football math search ran $3.00 to $10.00, with a median of $4.00 (TPT football math results). Bundles run higher than single worksheets, and roughly 390 of the 5,700-plus results are free, so filter to free before you buy.
Football season is the one time of year a kid will voluntarily do arithmetic about somebody else's job. If you want that hook to last past week three, see how LitZone turns real NFL stats into daily Common Core reading and math practice for ages 8 to 13, with a free teacher portal and a 7-day free trial, at litzonesports.com.
