Week 8 NFL Power Rankings (Teams 16–1)
As the season hits the halfway point, the playoff picture is starting to take shape. Several teams are heating up, while others are trying to stay afloat in tough divisions. From surprise contenders like the Colts to resurgent powerhouses like the Eagles and Lions, here’s how the top half of the NFL looks heading into Week 8.
16. Jacksonville Jaguars (4–3)
The Jaguars have been up and down this season, and their 4–3 record shows it. Trevor Lawrence continues to make big plays, but turnovers have been costly. Jacksonville’s defense remains solid, yet they’ll need to finish drives better if they want to keep pace in the AFC South.
15. Los Angeles Chargers (4–3)
Los Angeles fell 38–24 to the Colts but showed flashes of offensive firepower. Justin Herbert threw for over 400 yards, and Keenan Allen caught 11 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown. Still, three turnovers were too much to overcome. The Chargers can beat anyone, but only if they clean up their mistakes.
14. Chicago Bears (4–2)
The Bears are one of the NFL’s best comeback stories. Their 26–14 win over the Saints marked their fourth straight victory. D’Andre Swift rushed for 124 yards, and rookie back Kyle Monangai added 81 more. Chicago’s balanced attack and strong defense have made them one of the NFC’s biggest surprises.
13. Pittsburgh Steelers (4–2)
Pittsburgh fell 33–31 to the Bengals in a thriller. The offense finally came alive, but the defense couldn’t stop Joe Flacco and Ja’Marr Chase late. Aaron Rodgers has been effectice, yet inconsistency continues to hold this team back. The Steelers are solid, but not quite elite.
12. New England Patriots (5–2)
The Patriots are one of the league’s biggest surprises. Their 31–13 win over the Titans showed how much young quarterback Drake Maye has grown. Maye threw two touchdowns and completed over 90% of his passes, while Rhamondre Stevenson powered the ground game. New England looks poised to stay in the playoff race.
11. Denver Broncos (5–2)
The Broncos staged one of the wildest comebacks of the season, beating the Giants 33–32. Rookie quarterback Bo Nix led a furious rally with three total touchdowns and lead the game-winning frive. Denver’s offense is finally clicking, and with their defense forcing turnovers, they’re looking like true contenders in the AFC.
10. Seattle Seahawks (5–2)
The Seahawks earned a hard-fought 27–19 win over the Texans. Rookie receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a breakout game with 123 yards and a touchdown, while Zach Charbonnet powered the ground attack. Seattle’s balanced offense and aggressive defense keep them among the NFC’s most complete teams.
9. Los Angeles Rams (5–2)
The Rams just keep finding ways to win. Their defense continues to make key stops, and quarterback Matthew Stafford has been spreading the ball around with precision. With Puka Nacua out, Davante Adams was able to step into in place, totaling 3 touchdowns. The Rams are quietly one of the NFC’s most dangerous squads.
8. Kansas City Chiefs (4–3)
The Chiefs finally looked like themselves again in a 31–0 rout of the Raiders. Patrick Mahomes threw three touchdowns, and Rashee Rice returned from suspension with two scores. The defense dominated every quarter. Kansas City is better than their record suggests and the rest of the AFC should take notice.
7. San Francisco 49ers (5–2)
The 49ers defeated the Falcons 20–10 thanks to Christian McCaffrey’s monster day: 201 total yards and two touchdowns. Even without stars Nick Bosa and Brandon Aiyuk, San Francisco’s offense hummed. When healthy, this is one of the league’s scariest rosters, and they’re proving they can win ugly, too.
6. Buffalo Bills (4–2)
The Bills were on a bye week, and it came at the perfect time. Josh Allen has been inconsistent, and the defense needed a rest. Buffalo remains one of the AFC’s most talented teams, and with a week off to recover, expect them to come out firing in Week 8.
5. Philadelphia Eagles (5–2)
The Eagles earned a big 28–22 win over the Vikings behind a perfect performance from Jalen Hurts. He threw for 326 yards and three touchdowns, with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith both topping 100 yards. Philadelphia’s offense looked unstoppable, and they’ve reclaimed control of the NFC East.
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5–2)
Tampa Bay lost 24–9 to the Lions but still look like one of the NFC’s best. Injuries to Mike Evans and Emeka Egbuka certainly slowed the offense, and Baker Mayfield couldn’t get much going. The Bucs’ defense remains tough, and when healthy, they can compete with anyone.
3. Detroit Lions (5–2)
Detroit proved they belong among the NFC’s elite with a 24–9 win over Tampa Bay. Jahmyr Gibbs exploded for 218 total yards and two touchdowns, carrying the offense. The Lions are fast, physical, and confident. They’re back to being a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
2. Green Bay Packers (4–1–1)
Green Bay edged out Arizona 27–23 thanks to a strong performance from Jordan Love and running back Josh Jacobs, who scored twice. Rookie receiver Matthew Golden continues to emerge, giving the Packers more depth on offense. Green Bay’s defense remains reliable, making this team a real NFC title threat.
1. Indianapolis Colts (6–1)
The Colts are the hottest team in football. Their 38–24 win over the Chargers showcased everything that’s gone right this season: dominant running from Jonathan Taylor, efficient passing from Daniel Jones, and a defense that forces turnovers. At 6–1, Indianapolis looks like the complete package and a Super Bowl contender for the first time since the Andrew Luck days.
Final Thoughts
The top half of the league is packed with dangerous teams. The Colts and Lions look like the real deal, while the Chiefs, Eagles, and 49ers are rounding into form. Meanwhile, young quarterbacks like Bo Nix, Drake Maye, and Trevor Lawrence are proving they can lead playoff runs. With every week bringing more surprises, this NFL season is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable in years.
