Bears Soar Past Cowboys 31-14 in Caleb Williams Showcase
The Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys entered Sunday night with high hopes for their 2025 seasons. The Bears brought their brand-new offense led by head coach Ben Johnson, the mastermind who built Detroit's championship-level attack. Meanwhile, the Cowboys arrived with their revamped receiving duo of CeeDee Lamb and newly acquired George Pickens, ready to help quarterback Dak Prescott bounce back from his injury-shortened 2024 campaign.
What unfolded was a magical night for the Bears and their young quarterback Caleb Williams, who put on an absolute show in front of the home crowd.
First Quarter Fireworks
The game started with a bang when Williams found Rome Odunze streaking down the left sideline for a beautiful 35-yard touchdown pass. The second-year quarterback showed perfect touch and timing, giving the Bears an early 7-0 lead. The Cowboys answered right back with a methodical drive that ended with a 53-yard field goal by Brandon Aubrey, cutting the deficit to 7-3.
But Williams wasn't done making magic. With just over four minutes left in the quarter, he spotted rookie Luther Burden III running a perfect route down the left side. The pass was absolutely perfect, and Burden hauled it in for a spectacular 65-yard touchdown! The crowd erupted as the Bears took a commanding 14-3 lead.
Second Quarter Battle
The Cowboys showed their fighting spirit in the second quarter. After another Aubrey field goal made it 14-6, Dallas finally found the end zone when Prescott connected with George Pickens for a 2-yard touchdown pass. The Cowboys even went for a bold two-point conversion, with Prescott finding Jalen Tolbert to tie the game at 14-14.
The Bears responded like champions. Williams engineered a beautiful drive that ended with him finding tight end Cole Kmet for a 10-yard touchdown pass with just 30 seconds left in the half. The Bears took a 21-14 lead into the locker room, and Williams was already up to three touchdown passes!
Third Quarter Dominance
The third quarter belonged entirely to Chicago. Williams and the Bears offense controlled the game with a long, grinding drive that ate up most of the quarter. D'Andre Swift carried the load on the ground, while Williams used his legs to pick up crucial first downs. The drive ended with Williams finding DJ Moore for a 4-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead to 28-14.
The Cowboys' offense struggled to find any rhythm against Chicago's defense, managing just one first down in the entire quarter.
Fourth Quarter Finish
The Bears put the game away early in the fourth quarter when the Cowboys turned the ball over twice on interceptions. Edwards came up with both picks, showing why Chicago's defense has improved so much. The Bears added a field goal to make the final score 31-14.
Game-Changing Performances
Caleb Williams was absolutely brilliant, completing 19 of 28 passes for 298 yards and four touchdowns. He also added 12 rushing yards, showing off the mobility that makes him so dangerous. Luther Burden III announced his arrival to the NFL with 101 receiving yards and a touchdown on just three catches. D'Andre Swift provided steady production with 33 rushing yards and 45 receiving yards.
Looking Ahead
This victory proves that the Bears' massive offseason changes are working perfectly. Ben Johnson's offensive system is already clicking with Williams and his talented weapons. The Bears look like a team ready to compete for the playoffs.
The Cowboys, meanwhile, need to regroup quickly. Despite having talented players like Prescott and their receiving duo, they struggled to match Chicago's energy and execution.
Both teams will need to prepare for tough opponents next week as they continue their 2025 journeys.
