James Cook III turned a tied fourth quarter into Buffalo’s escape route Sunday, powering the Bills to a 33-30 win over the Raiders at Allegiant Stadium. Buffalo arrived at 4-1 after an overtime win over the Rams, chasing another strong start in its long Super Bowl journey. Las Vegas, 3-2 and coming off a tough loss in New England, showed far more fight than the final score could hide.
The Raiders struck first after Buffalo opened with Tyler Bass’ 44-yard field goal. Kirk Cousins found Tre Tucker for 26 yards, while Ashton Jeanty mixed tough runs with catches out of the backfield. A defensive pass interference call placed the ball near the goal line, and Jeanty punched in a 1-yard touchdown for a 7-3 Raiders lead.
Josh Allen answered with a 37-yard throw to Joshua Palmer, then kept finding Dalton Kincaid underneath. Buffalo had to settle for another Bass field goal, but the Bills’ patient offense finally broke through in the second quarter. Allen hit Keon Coleman for 21 yards, Cook caught a 23-yard pass, and Khalil Shakir finished the march with a 9-yard touchdown. Buffalo led 13-7.
Las Vegas refused to fade. Cousins guided the Raiders downfield with short throws to Jeanty and tight end Michael Mayer, setting up Matt Gay’s first field goal. Before halftime, Mayer caught three more key passes as the Raiders hurried into range. Gay’s 27-yard kick at the horn tied it 13-13, giving the home team new life.
Buffalo took charge early in the second half. Cook ripped off runs of 13 and 11 yards, and Allen moved the chains with sharp throws. A touchdown pass to Kincaid was erased by a holding penalty, but Bass gave the Bills a 16-13 lead. Then linebacker Williams intercepted a Cousins pass at the Raiders’ 32-yard line. The takeaway became seven points when Allen fired a 12-yard touchdown to Coleman, pushing Buffalo ahead 23-13.
Still, the Raiders kept swinging. Bowers, playing through the game after being questionable before it, made a 15-yard catch to the Buffalo 2 late in the third quarter. Las Vegas settled for Gay’s third field goal, then mounted its biggest drive of the day. Bowers caught passes of 18 and 29 yards, and Tucker hauled in an 11-yard touchdown to tie the score 23-23 with 8:07 left.
That was Cook’s moment. He ran for 11 yards, caught a 26-yard pass from Allen to reach the 3, then powered in for the go-ahead touchdown. Cook finished with 95 rushing yards and 58 receiving yards, giving Buffalo the steady attack it needed. Bass added a 38-yard field goal for a 33-23 lead.
Tucker’s 44-yard touchdown catch made it 33-30 with 1:32 remaining, but Shakir secured the onside kick and Allen took three kneels to finish it. Buffalo improved to 5-1 and next faces Baltimore, carrying proof it can win without a perfect game. The Raiders fell to 3-3, yet their late fight gives them a foundation to bring into their next game against the Rams.
