D’Andre Swift kept finding the end zone, and the Chicago Bears kept taking control. The speedy running back scored three rushing touchdowns Monday night as Chicago beat the defending champion Seattle Seahawks 34-17 at Lumen Field. The Bears arrived at 5-2, chasing another NFC North title, while the 4-3 Seahawks hoped their loud home field would launch their title defense back on track.
Chicago set the tone with a long opening drive that chewed up the clock and pushed Seattle backward. Caleb Williams spread short passes among tight end Colston Loveland and wide receiver Luther Burden III, while Roschon Johnson powered to the 1-yard line. Williams then hit Burden for the touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
Seattle finally found a spark late in the first quarter. Sam Darnold connected with Jaxon Smith-Njigba for gains of 21 and 16 yards, putting the Seahawks at Chicago’s 9-yard line. The Bears held firm, though, and Seattle settled for a 27-yard field goal. Chicago answered with two Cairo Santos field goals and led 13-3 as halftime neared.
Then Smith-Njigba gave Lumen Field a jolt. With 30 seconds left in the half, Darnold launched a deep pass down the left side. Smith-Njigba hauled it in for a 43-yard touchdown, slicing the score to 13-9. The extra-point kick missed, but Seattle had life after a rough first half.
Chicago took that life away with a calm, powerful third quarter. Williams hit Rome Odunze for gains of 23 and 22 yards, showing how Chicago could strike through the air as well as on the ground. Swift then carried the final yard for a touchdown and a 20-9 lead.
Early in the fourth quarter, Seattle had its biggest chance to roar back. A Seattle defender knocked the ball loose from Loveland, giving Darnold and the offense possession at Chicago’s 25. Rookie Jadarian Price ran for 9 yards, and Darnold found Cooper Kupp for a 7-yard touchdown. A successful two-point pass to Tory Horton made it 20-17 with 11:46 left.
But Chicago answered immediately. Kalif Raymond raced 39 yards on an end-around run, flipping the field in one flash. Swift finished the drive with a 5-yard touchdown. Later, defensive lineman Lynch intercepted Darnold, setting up Swift’s third score and sealing the 34-17 result.
Swift’s 27 carries showed Chicago could control the game even against Seattle’s strong defense, while Williams threw for 247 yards without an interception. Smith-Njigba fought hard with six catches for 118 yards and a touchdown, but Seattle went only 1-for-11 on third down, repeatedly losing chances to extend drives.
The Bears are now 6-2 and carry a big road win into their next game against Tampa Bay. Seattle falls to 4-4 before meeting Arizona, with the larger lesson clear: championship teams must turn their comeback chances into full finishes.
