Cowboys and Packers Battle to Epic 40-40 Tie in Week 4 Thriller
What happens when two high-powered offenses meet on Sunday night? Pure football magic! The Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers treated fans to an incredible back-and-forth battle that ended in a rare 40-40 tie at AT&T Stadium.
The Cowboys entered this game looking to bounce back from their slow 1-2 start under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer. With quarterback Dak Prescott healthy and star receiver George Pickens joining forces with CeeDee Lamb, Dallas hoped their explosive passing attack would finally click. Meanwhile, the Packers arrived in Texas with confidence, sitting at 2-1 thanks to Jordan Love's outstanding play when healthy. After battling injuries all last season, Love was ready to show why Green Bay believes he's their franchise quarterback.
First Quarter Fireworks
The Packers struck first blood with a beautiful drive capped by Love finding Romeo Doubs in the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown pass. Love looked sharp early, completing passes to rookie Matthew Golden and tight end Tucker Kraft to move the chains. The Cowboys answered right back, but their drive stalled and they were forced to punt. Green Bay led 7-0 after the opening quarter, with Love already showing the mobility that makes him dangerous.
Second Quarter Chaos
The second quarter belonged to both offenses! Love connected with Doubs again for another short touchdown pass, but the extra point was blocked and returned by the Cowboys for two points, making it 13-2 Green Bay. The Cowboys offense finally found its rhythm as Prescott started finding his receivers. A beautiful touchdown run by Prescott himself cut the lead, and then disaster struck for Green Bay. Love was sacked and fumbled near his own end zone, giving Dallas perfect field position. Prescott immediately capitalized, hitting Pickens for a 15-yard touchdown strike. At halftime, Dallas led 16-13.
Third Quarter Showcase
Both teams came out firing in the third quarter! Josh Jacobs, the veteran running back who joined Green Bay this season, punched in a 1-yard touchdown run to put the Packers back on top 20-16. But the Cowboys had an answer ready. Prescott found tight end Jake Ferguson for an 8-yard touchdown pass, showing off the balanced attack that new coach Schottenheimer wanted. Dallas led 23-20 entering the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter Drama
The fourth quarter was absolutely wild! Jacobs powered in another touchdown run from 18 yards out, giving Green Bay a 27-23 advantage. But running back Javonte Williams had other plans for Dallas. The veteran back, competing for carries in a crowded backfield, bulldozed his way to a 1-yard touchdown that put the Cowboys ahead 30-27.
With time running out, Love showed why the Packers believe in him. He found Doubs for a clutch 15-yard touchdown pass with less than two minutes left, giving Green Bay a 34-30 lead. But Prescott wasn't done! He connected with Pickens for a spectacular 28-yard touchdown pass with just 50 seconds remaining, putting Dallas up 37-34.
In the final seconds, Love drove the Packers into field goal range, and Brandon McManus nailed a 53-yard kick to tie the game 37-37 and send it to overtime!
Overtime Excitement
In the extra period, both teams managed to kick field goals, resulting in the rare 40-40 tie. Love finished with 337 passing yards and 3 touchdowns, while Prescott threw for 319 yards and 4 total touchdowns. Jacobs had a monster game with 86 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns, plus 71 receiving yards.
This tie keeps both teams in playoff contention. The Cowboys (1-2-2) will look to build momentum against their next opponent, while the Packers (2-1-2) continue their push toward the postseason. What a game!
