The last time Christian Watson touched the spotlight at Lambeau Field, he turned it into a blur of green and gold. Watson caught two long touchdown passes in Green Bay’s 31-7 win over Chicago last week, including a 53-yard strike that showed how quickly he can flip a game. Now the 3-2 Packers welcome the 2-3 Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night, with both teams chasing a season-changing win.
Lambeau Field should feel loud from the opening kickoff. Green Bay has won two straight games and is trying to turn an uneven start into a push for the NFC North title. Dallas has a powerful offense, but its Week 5 loss to Tampa Bay showed its biggest problem: the Cowboys need to keep opponents from controlling the game for long stretches.
The brightest matchup may be Watson against a Dallas defense that has allowed nearly 395 yards per game. That number means opponents have found room to move the ball, both through the air and on the ground. Jordan Love will look to create more deep chances for Watson, who already has six touchdown catches in five games. His speed forces defenders to back up, which can open short throws for tight end Tucker Kraft.
Kraft gives Green Bay a different kind of challenge. He is strong with the ball and can turn a short catch into a hard-earned first down. The Packers also need MarShawn Lloyd to provide steady runs after he scored twice against Chicago. Green Bay is averaging only 60 rushing yards per game, and it will be without Josh Jacobs. That makes Lloyd’s ability to find small openings even more important.
Dallas arrives with its own star-powered attack. Dak Prescott has two game-breakers in CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. Lamb has caught 39 passes for 507 yards, showing how often Prescott looks his way when Dallas needs a spark. Pickens brings another big-play threat, as he proved with nine catches and 130 yards last week. If Green Bay gives either receiver open space, the Cowboys can score in a hurry.
Javonte Williams may hold the key to making that passing attack even tougher to stop. He has six rushing touchdowns already and runs with power through tackles. Dallas rushed for only 81.6 yards per game so far, though, so the Cowboys must avoid becoming too predictable. A stronger running game would keep Green Bay’s defenders from sitting back and waiting for passes.
The Packers’ defense will be tested without pass rusher Micah Parsons and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, who is out. Still, Green Bay has created big stops lately, including four interceptions against Chicago. Dallas has lost the ball too often this season, and protecting it under the bright Sunday-night lights will matter.
Dallas can absolutely make this a shootout, but Green Bay has more momentum, home-field energy and a defense that is making timely plays. Expect Love and Watson to connect for another memorable Lambeau moment. Prediction: Packers win.
