Javonte Williams turned a close NFC East fight into a Dallas celebration. The Cowboys running back kept smashing through Philadelphia’s defense, finishing with 155 rushing yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown as Dallas beat the Eagles 38-21 on Monday night. Both teams arrived at 2-4, searching for a spark, but the Cowboys found a full-team answer and moved to 3-4. Philadelphia fell to 2-5 after its fourth straight loss.
Dallas struck first when Brandon Aubrey drilled a 55-yard field goal. Philadelphia answered with the kind of fast start it badly needed. Saquon Barkley burst 29 yards down the left side, then ran in an 8-yard touchdown for a 7-3 lead. Barkley gained 62 yards on only seven carries, showing the burst that gave the Eagles life early.
Dak Prescott did not let the Cowboys wobble. He hit Ryan Flournoy for 35 yards to set up a 9-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb, putting Dallas ahead 10-7. The Eagles kept fighting behind backup quarterback Tanner McKee. A 17-yard pass to Darius Cooper put Philadelphia near the goal line, and Dameon Pierce finished the drive with a 5-yard touchdown early in the second quarter. The Eagles led 14-10.
That lead did not last because Prescott had too many targets. He found George Pickens for a 21-yard touchdown, then guided a quick drive before halftime that ended with Aubrey’s 27-yard field goal. Dallas took a 20-14 lead into the break, but the game still felt wide open.
Philadelphia came out charging in the third quarter. McKee completed several sharp, short passes during a long drive, while Pierce powered the ball toward the goal line. Rookie receiver Makai Lemon caught the 4-yard touchdown pass that gave the Eagles a 21-20 lead. Lemon’s seven catches for 67 yards made him a bright spot for an offense missing key playmakers.
Then Prescott and Lamb grabbed the game back. With Dallas driving, a play first appeared to be a Philadelphia touchdown on a loose ball return. Replay changed the call to an incomplete pass, keeping the Cowboys alive. Two plays later, Prescott fired a 16-yard touchdown to Lamb. Prescott then ran in the two-point try, and Dallas led 28-21.
The Cowboys’ powerful ground game took over from there. Williams ripped off a 34-yard run in the fourth quarter, helping set up another Aubrey field goal. When McKee tried to answer, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown intercepted a pass intended for Dallas Goedert. That was Philadelphia’s only turnover, and it gave Dallas the chance to close the door.
Williams did exactly that. Dallas used the clock with a bruising drive, and he scored from 2 yards out for the final touchdown. Prescott threw three touchdown passes without an interception, while Lamb caught two scores and Pickens added one. Dallas piled up 204 rushing yards, proving it can win with more than its passing attack.
The Cowboys now carry new energy into a game against the Arizona Cardinals. The Eagles showed fight and moved the ball at times, but they must regroup before facing the Washington Commanders. For Dallas, Williams’ pounding runs gave a season searching for direction a powerful new chapter.
