Dodgers Go Back-to-Back: A Championship for the Ages
The 2025 World Series gave baseball fans a finish they will never forget. In one of the most dramatic Game 7s in recent memory, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 5–4 in 11 innings to win their second straight World Series championship.
A Battle to the End
Game 7 in Toronto was packed with emotion and intensity from start to finish. Shohei Ohtani started for the Dodgers, while veteran Max Scherzer took the mound for the Blue Jays. Toronto grabbed an early 3–0 lead after Bo Bichette launched a three-run homer that sent the home crowd roaring.
The Dodgers fought back late. Miguel Rojas hit a clutch game-tying home run in the ninth inning, silencing the Toronto crowd and sending the game into extra innings. Both teams made incredible defensive plays, including two runners thrown out at home plate, before Los Angeles finally broke through in the 11th. Will Smith’s go-ahead homer gave the Dodgers the lead for good, sealing a 5–4 victory and another championship celebration.
What It Means for the Dodgers
The Dodgers have built one of the strongest rosters in baseball history, and it shows. With the highest payroll in the league, they’ve invested heavily in star talent like Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman, and it’s paid off. This back-to-back title makes them the first team in 25 years to repeat as champions.
For Shohei Ohtani, who joined the Dodgers in 2024, the moment was extra special. Not only did he dominate at the plate and on the mound throughout the season, but he also proved he could win at the highest level. Ohtani’s performance has made him the face of baseball worldwide, inspiring young players everywhere.
Heartbreak in Toronto
For the Blue Jays, the loss was crushing. They came within two innings of their first World Series title since 1993. The fans at Rogers Centre gave their team a standing ovation, knowing how close they had come.
Still, this Blue Jays team, led by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette, has proven they can compete with anyone. While the Dodgers celebrate, Toronto can leave the season with pride, knowing they helped create one of the greatest World Series matchups of all time.
