Is It Time for a Shortstop Switch in LA?
Hyeseong Kim has quickly become one of the most exciting new players on the Los Angeles Dodgers. He started the 2025 season in Triple-A with the Oklahoma City Dodgers, but since getting called up to the major leagues, he’s made a big impact. At 26 years old, Kim is proving he belongs in the big leagues and he might just be the answer the Dodgers have been looking for at shortstop.
A Star from South Korea
Before coming to the United States, Kim was a star in South Korea’s KBO League. He played for the Kiwoom Heroes and was known as one of the league’s best all-around players. During the offseason, the Dodgers signed him to a 3-year, $12.5 million contract.
In Korea, Kim won four Golden Glove Awards, which are given to the best defensive players at each position. His defense was one of the best in the KBO, and now he is bringing that same level of play to Major League Baseball.
In his first 25 games with the Dodgers, Kim has done it all. He is batting .411 with 2 home runs, 7 RBIs, 13 runs scored, and 6 stolen bases in 6 tries. He’s hitting at a high level, making smart decisions on the bases, and contributing to the team in multiple ways.
Kim has also shown that he can play more than just shortstop. He has played second base and center field and looked great at those positions too. His quick reflexes, smooth glove, and strong arm make him a reliable defender anywhere on the field.
Time to Make a Change
Miguel Rojas is currently the Dodgers’ starting shortstop. While he has a strong defensive reputation, his hitting has been a struggle this season. So far, he is batting just .207 with 1 home run and 5 RBIs. For a team that wants to win a championship, that is not enough.
Kim has brought more life to the Dodgers' offense. The team should consider shifting Rojas to a backup role and giving Kim a real shot to start at shortstop.
A Spark of Energy
Kim is making an impact beyond his hitting and defense by bringing energy and enthusiasm to the clubhouse. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said, “Hyeseong, there’s just something about him. That youthful enthusiasm, that joy, he’s just happy to be out there, and guys feed off the energy.” (MLB.com)
Having a player like Kim, who loves the game and lifts up his teammates, can make a big difference during a long season.
Dodgers fans have already taken notice. Many are calling for Kim to get more playing time. With his exciting style, strong defense, and team-first attitude, he is quickly becoming a fan favorite.
Hyeseong Kim has all the skills to succeed in the major leagues. He has earned his shot. Now the Dodgers should give it to him by making him their everyday starting shortstop.
