The Raiders arrived at MetLife Stadium carrying a three-game losing streak. They left with a hard-earned answer, using Brock Bowers’ two touchdown catches and a final defensive stand to beat the Jets 38-33 on Sunday. Las Vegas climbed from 3-4 to 4-4, while New York fell to 2-6 after another close game slipped away.
The Jets struck first with a sharp opening drive. Geno Smith hit Garrett Wilson for 31 yards, and Braelon Allen powered through the Raiders defense to the 4-yard line. The drive stalled, but kicker Jason Sanders made a 21-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead.
Las Vegas answered with patient football. Kirk Cousins, directing the Raiders offense, found Jalen Nailor twice before firing a 23-yard pass to Bowers. Two plays later, Bowers caught a 12-yard touchdown to put Las Vegas ahead 7-3. The tight end had played through a calf issue in the build-up to the game, yet he quickly became the Raiders’ most important target.
New York kept moving the ball, but its early drives ended with Sanders field goals. Then Smith began to open up the field. He connected with Adonai Mitchell for gains of 17, 20 and 22 yards before Isaiah Williams hauled in an 18-yard touchdown. The Jets led 13-7, but the lead lasted only seconds. Raiders returner Dylan Laube raced 95 yards with the kickoff for a touchdown, flipping the score to 14-13.
Allen refused to let that swing slow the Jets. He burst up the middle for 24 yards during the next drive, and Smith found Mitchell for a 12-yard touchdown. Sanders added a late field goal, sending New York into halftime ahead 23-14.
Bowers changed the game again after halftime. He caught a 27-yard pass to start the Raiders’ first drive, then finished it with a 2-yard touchdown catch. After Allen answered with a 21-yard touchdown run for a 30-21 Jets lead, Las Vegas marched right back. Bowers set up a quarterback sneak by Cousins, then hauled in another key catch on the next drive as the Raiders took their first lead, 35-30, on Nailor’s 2-yard score.
Smith gave New York one more push. Mitchell made a huge 47-yard catch, but the Raiders forced two incompletions near the goal line. Sanders’ 31-yard field goal cut it to 35-33 with 4:31 left.
The Raiders then leaned on Mike Washington Jr., who helped drain the clock with tough runs. Kicker Matt Gay drilled a 53-yard field goal with 27 seconds left. Smith moved the Jets near midfield, but a Raiders safety intercepted his final deep throw intended for Wilson.
Bowers finished with seven catches, 92 yards and two scores, while Cousins threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. Allen ran for 147 yards for New York, but Las Vegas finished all four of its trips inside the 20-yard line with touchdowns. The Raiders now face the San Francisco 49ers with new life, while the Jets head toward a meeting with the Kansas City Chiefs still searching for a late-game finish.
