Mid-Season Rookie Report: Wide Receivers
We’re halfway through the 2025 NFL season, and this year’s rookie wide receivers are showing real promise. Some are already key pieces of their offenses, while others are starting to find their rhythm. Each of these players brings a different skill set, but all five have shown they belong in the league.
1) Emeka Egbuka — Buccaneers
Egbuka plays with the calm of a veteran. He runs precise routes, finds open space, and makes tough catches look easy. Tampa Bay uses him all over the field, and he’s responded with production. He’s averaging nearly 8 targets per game and gaining 8.9 yards per target, proving to be one of the most efficient rookies in the league.
2) Travis Hunter — Jaguars
Hunter is a highlight waiting to happen. He’s quick off the line, has smooth footwork, and wins contested catches. Before his injury he was beginning to break out as a key weapon in Jacksonville’s offense. He was seeing over 6 targets per game, and while his 6.6 yards per target leave room for improvement, his natural talent keeps defenses guessing.
3) Tet McMillan — Panthers
McMillan is becoming a go-to option for Carolina. He uses his strength to box out defenders and his size to dominate on third downs. With a 24% target share, he’s commanding one of the biggest roles among rookie receivers. He’s also efficient, averaging 8.1 yards per target, showing he can move the chains and make plays downfield.
4) Luther Burden — Bears
Burden brings energy every time he touches the ball. He turns short passes into big gains and plays with fearless effort. Even with limited targets, he’s made the most of his chances, averaging nearly 11.4 yards per target, the best mark in the rookie class. Chicago is slowly giving him more opportunities, and his playmaking ability could change games down the stretch.
5) Matthew Golden — Packers
Golden’s progress has been steady. He shows good balance, body control, and timing when making catches along the sideline. His 12% target share may not stand out yet, but his 9 yards per target prove he’s maximizing every opportunity. Green Bay has a strong track record with young receivers, and Golden looks like their next success story.
A Talented Group
This rookie group is skilled and confident. Egbuka looks the most polished, Hunter flashes superstar potential, McMillan provides consistency, Burden adds electricity, and Golden continues to grow. Each has laid the foundation for a bright NFL future.
