The 76ers have opened the 2026–27 season with two straight wins, but Saturday night brings a different kind of challenge to Philadelphia. Milwaukee arrives at 0-1 as of Thursday, Oct. 22, carrying the first chapter of a rebuild and a roster eager to show it can grow fast. At 7:30 p.m. EDT, the Bucks will try to turn their young energy into a road surprise against a Sixers group chasing much bigger spring goals.

Philadelphia’s story starts with Tyrese Maxey, the blur in sneakers who has poured in 30 points per game through two contests. He scored 30 in Thursday’s 114-106 win over Cleveland, helping the Sixers protect their perfect start. Maxey does not simply sprint up the floor; he forces defenders to backpedal, then attacks the lane or rises for a quick shot. Milwaukee allowed 128 points in its opener against Washington, so stopping Maxey before he gets rolling is the first job.

That job gets tougher because Maxey has powerful teammates around him. Joel Embiid gives Philadelphia a giant target near the basket, where he can score over defenders and protect the rim on the other end. He is averaging nine rebounds, showing how he helps finish defensive stops. LeBron James adds calm decision-making, with six assists per game so far. An assist is a pass that leads directly to a basket, and LeBron’s passing can turn Milwaukee’s smallest mistake into an open look. Jaylen Brown and V.J. Edgecombe add more size and athleticism on the wings, making the Sixers difficult to match across the floor.

Still, Philadelphia has room to improve. The Sixers have made only 26.5 percent of their three-point shots in two games. If those long shots do not fall, they will need Maxey’s drives, Embiid’s strength, and steady ball movement to create points closer to the hoop. They also average 14.5 turnovers, meaning possessions that end without a shot. Milwaukee will want to make that number rise with active hands and pressure.

The Bucks have a new leader in Tyler Herro, who posted 24 points and nine assists in his Milwaukee debut. Herro can curl around screens, dribble into pull-up jumpers, and set up teammates when defenders rush toward him. Milwaukee scored 116 points in that first game and made 36.6 percent from three, a sign that its shooters can keep pace when the ball moves well.

Myles Turner is the veteran piece who can stretch the defense with his outside shot while also guarding the basket. Young center Kel’el Ware brings length and leaping ability, but Milwaukee will face a huge physical challenge against Embiid. The Bucks also committed 16 turnovers in their opener, a risky habit against a Philadelphia team averaging nine steals. A steal happens when a defender takes the ball away, often starting a fast break.

This game is a collision between Philadelphia’s win-now power and Milwaukee’s growing young core. The Bucks have enough shooting to make it lively, but the Sixers own more answers at both ends of the floor. Philadelphia should win behind Maxey’s burst and its deep group of stars.
