A blocked kick helped Detroit escape Green Bay with a 20-17 win last week. Now the Lions return to Ford Field for an even bigger NFC North challenge: the unbeaten Minnesota Vikings are coming to town.

Minnesota stands at 6-0, but this has not been a team that wins with wild scoring races. The Vikings allow only 12.3 points per game, showing how often their defense closes the door near the end zone. Their 16-10 win over Indianapolis showed that strength. When the game tightened, Minnesota’s defenders made sacks, forced difficult plays, and gave Kyler Murray time to create the winning drive.

That patient style will meet Detroit’s roaring attack. The Lions score more than 30 points per game and gain nearly 400 yards per outing. Jared Goff moves the ball quickly to a group of targets that can attack every area of the field. Amon-Ra St. Brown is the steady route runner who finds space and catches key passes. Jameson Williams is the speed threat who can turn one opening into a long gain. Sam LaPorta gives Goff a big target over the middle.

The most dangerous Lion may be Jahmyr Gibbs. He has rushed for 620 yards and seven touchdowns in six games, using sharp cuts to slip past defenders. He also catches passes, so Minnesota must watch for him even when he lines up away from the backfield. Gibbs and St. Brown did not practice Wednesday because of injuries, however, so their availability will be important as kickoff approaches.

Minnesota’s defense has allowed far fewer yards than Detroit’s, and its front will try to make Goff uncomfortable before his receivers can get open. Yet the Vikings also have a challenge of their own. Detroit gives up 27.5 points per game, but its defenders can change a game with a huge play. Against Green Bay, Brian Branch made an interception and the Lions blocked a late field-goal try. Aidan Hutchinson and the pass rush will aim to contain Murray, whose quick feet can turn a broken play into a sprint downfield.

Murray’s main targets give Minnesota a smart answer. Justin Jefferson can win with quick feet and strong body control, while Jordan Addison can find openings downfield. Hockenson, facing his former Detroit team, works the middle and caught the go-ahead touchdown against Indianapolis. If the Lions focus too heavily on Jefferson, Murray can look to Hockenson or Addison.

This game feels like a clash between Detroit’s fast, high-scoring offense and Minnesota’s tough, calm defense. The Lions are 4-2 and trying to prove last season’s playoff miss is behind them. The Vikings are protecting a perfect start while their new quarterback partnership grows stronger. Ford Field should be loud, but Minnesota’s defense has been the most reliable force in this matchup. Prediction: the Vikings will win a close game.
