The Minnesota Vikings arrived in New Orleans unbeaten, searching for proof that Kyler Murray could make their new offense hum. By Sunday’s end, Murray had done just that. He used his quick feet, found Justin Jefferson for a touchdown, and helped Minnesota turn big Saints mistakes into a 23-13 win.

The Saints entered at 1-3 hoping Tyler Shough and their young passing game could build on last season’s hopeful finish. Early on, New Orleans’ defense gave them a chance. Defensive end Carl Granderson dropped Murray for a 10-yard loss, and the Vikings settled for a 40-yard field goal by Will Reichard and a 3-0 lead.

Minnesota then marched deep into Saints territory again. Jefferson made a 19-yard catch, while Aaron Jones Sr. powered through the middle. But safety Chase Young knocked the ball loose from Jones at the 7-yard line, ending the drive. That fumble gave New Orleans a spark. Shough hit Chris Olave for 14 yards as the first quarter ended, then the Saints leaned on Kendre Miller. Miller ran 30 yards on 10 carries, including a 2-yard touchdown that put New Orleans ahead 7-3.

The Vikings answered with patience. Murray kept the ball moving with short passes and scrambles, while Jefferson made key catches on the outside. Reichard drilled a 54-yard field goal as the first half ended, cutting the Saints’ lead to 7-6.

The biggest swing came right after halftime. A Saints returner fumbled the opening kickoff, and Minnesota recovered at the New Orleans 37. Murray quickly escaped for an 18-yard run, then fired a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jefferson. In only three plays after the mistake, the Vikings led 13-7.

New Orleans refused to fold. The Saints forced an interception, then safety Jonas Sanker made the wildest play of the day. Vikings receiver Myles Price caught a pass near the goal line but lost the ball. Sanker grabbed it and raced 87 yards for a touchdown. The extra point missed, leaving the score tied 13-13, but the Saints had changed the game in one burst.

Murray and Jones answered before the quarter ended. A 32-yard pass to Jeshaun Jones and a 19-yard run by Aaron Jones set up an 8-yard touchdown run early in the fourth. Minnesota led 20-13. Later, Reichard’s 55-yard field goal stretched the lead to 10 points.

The Vikings controlled the ball for 39:37 and gained 364 yards, showing how Murray’s movement and Jones’ 113 rushing yards kept drives alive. Cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. sealed the win with his second interception of Shough, who finished with two picks.

Minnesota is now 5-0 and carries a powerful new offensive rhythm into its next game against the Indianapolis Colts. The Saints fall to 1-4 and head toward the New York Giants knowing their defense created chances, but their young offense must protect the ball to turn promise into wins.
