Crawford Launches Two Bombs as Mariners Strike First
The Arizona Diamondbacks showed up at T-Mobile Park ready to battle, but the Seattle Mariners had other plans. Arizona came in sitting 31-25 after losing the night before. The Mariners were hot, riding a four-game winning streak with a 29-29 record. Right away, J.P. Crawford changed the game with his bat. In the first inning, he crushed a 92-mile-per-hour fastball from Zac Gallen deep to right field. The ball soared 379 feet and crashed over the wall. Seattle was up 1-0 before Arizona even stepped up to bat. The Mariners kept rolling in the third inning. Crawford came back up and this time faced an 88-mile-per-hour slider. He connected again, sending a long fly ball over the left field wall that traveled 384 feet. Julio Rodriguez scored ahead of him. Seattle stretched the lead to 3-0 and had the momentum early.
Diamondbacks Claw Back with Bats Blazing in Sixth
Arizona wasn't going away quietly. Geraldo Perdomo showed his power in the fourth inning. He drove a 96-mile-per-hour fastball from George Kirby far to right field, landing 353 feet away for a solo home run. That made it 3-1 Mariners. The fifth inning brought more pain for Arizona when Crawford went yard again. This time his bomb was 417 feet to center field, bringing another runner home and pushing Seattle ahead 5-1. But then the Diamondbacks exploded in the sixth. Gabriel Moreno cracked a double to center field with runners on base. Two runs scored on that hit alone. Then Ildemaro Vargas grounded into a fielder's choice, driving in another run. Jose Fernandez followed with a single to right field. One more run crossed the plate. Suddenly Arizona trailed just 5-6, and the game was alive again.
Raley's Blast and Extra-Inning Drama Keep Seattle Alive
Just when Arizona pulled within one, Luke Raley answered back. In the bottom of the sixth, he launched an 87-mile-per-hour changeup from Brandon Pfaadt high and deep to right field. The ball cleared the wall 403 feet away. Raley's home run made it 6-5 Seattle. Back and forth these teams went. Arizona tied the game in the ninth inning when Ildemaro Vargas grounded out and Geraldo Perdomo scored. The score was locked at 6-6. The game went to extra innings. In the tenth, Randy Arozarena stepped up for the Mariners. He ripped a double to center field, and J.P. Crawford raced home with the winning run. Seattle held on 7-6 in this wild back-and-forth battle. The Mariners improved to 30-29 and kept their winning streak alive. Arizona fell to 31-26 after the tough loss.
