Young Mariners Star Powers Seattle Home Win
The Seattle Mariners hosted the Arizona Diamondbacks at their home field. Arizona came in riding a three-game losing streak, while Seattle was hot with six straight wins. The night before, these teams played an instant classic that went to ten innings. Arizona lost that one 6-7 when Crawford scored the game-winner in extra baseball. Now they battled again on Sunday, May 31st. This time, Seattle's bats woke up early and stayed sharp. The Mariners won 3-2 in a tight, dramatic finish. You could feel the energy building from pitch one. Both teams knew every run would matter in this close fight. Arizona's pitcher Merrill Kelly took the mound for the visitors. Seattle sent Luis Castillo to the hill for the home team. The crowd at the stadium was ready for another battle.
Cole Young and Dominic Canzone Launch Early Shots
Cole Young stepped up first for Seattle in the second inning. He faced Merrill Kelly, who threw a four-seam fastball at 91 miles per hour. Young connected perfectly. The ball rocketed to right field and sailed over the wall. Seattle jumped ahead 1-0. The Mariners had struck first with that solo shot. Then the sixth inning came, and the game stayed tied at 1-1. That's when Luis Castillo, pitching for Seattle, threw a wild pitch. Carroll scored on that mistake. Perdomo moved to second base on the same wild play. Arizona took the lead 2-1. But Seattle answered right back. Dominic Canzone came to bat against Kelly. He swung at a cutter and drove it deep to right. Canzone's home run tied the game at 2-2. The momentum kept shifting back and forth. Every swing mattered now.
Wild Tenth Inning Delivers Mariners Victory
The game stayed tied at 2-2 heading into the eighth inning. That's when the Diamondbacks made their move. Ketel Marte stepped up to bat and hit a sacrifice fly to left field. Gabriel Moreno crossed home plate. Arizona went up 2-2... wait, that's wrong. Marte's fly ball made it 3-2, Arizona leading. But Seattle wouldn't quit. The Mariners came to bat in the tenth inning needing one run to tie. Jonathan Loaisiga pitched for Arizona. Victor Robles stepped up with runners on base. He hit an infield single to shortstop. That soft grounder found its way through. Arozarena scored the tying run from third. Raley moved to third base. The game was locked at 3-3 now. Seattle needed just one more hit. The Mariners got it. They won 3-2 in one of the craziest finishes you'll ever see. Both teams left everything on the field. This was baseball at its best.
