Now they wanted to take control of this series. The Cardinals sat at 42-35, while Arizona was 40-39. Both teams needed wins badly. The Diamondbacks would score six runs by the end of the fourth inning. The Cardinals simply couldn't keep up. By game's end, Arizona rolled to a 9-4 victory. Tommy Troy sparked the early damage with smart hits. The bullpen held on tight when it mattered most.

The Diamondbacks now led 9-2 and cruised to the finish. The Cardinals made one last push in the ninth. Jose Fermin smashed a 387-foot homer to left off Drey Jameson. Blaze Jordan singled to center. Nootbaar scored. But Arizona's lead was too big. Final score: Arizona 9, St. Louis 4. The Diamondbacks improved to 41-39 with the road win. St. Louis fell to 42-36.
