Perdomo Strikes First, Caminero Answers Back
The Diamondbacks came to Tropicana Field ready to fight. Arizona was riding a two-game winning streak and wanted to keep the momentum going. But Tampa Bay's home crowd had other plans. Right away in the first inning, Geraldo Perdomo crushed a fastball from Nick Martinez deep to right-center. The ball sailed 421 feet into the night sky. One-nothing Arizona. But the Rays didn't wait long to respond. Junior Caminero stepped up and hammered a four-seam fastball 437 feet to center field. That blast brought home Yandy Diaz and Jonathan Aranda too. Suddenly it was 3-1 Tampa Bay. The home team had flipped the script instantly. Early momentum swung hard toward the Rays.
Mullins Goes Deep, Gallen Struggles in Seventh
The game tightened up through the middle innings, but Zac Gallen was working hard for Arizona. Then came the seventh. Cedric Mullins came to the plate and didn't mess around. He connected on a four-seam fastball and launched it 433 feet to right-center. The Rays were up 4-1 now. But wait—there was more. Juan Burgos took over pitching and things fell apart fast. Yandy Diaz ripped a single to right, scoring Hunter Feduccia. Then Jonathan Aranda doubled to center, bringing Diaz home. Suddenly the scoreboard read 6-1 Tampa Bay. The seventh inning belonged completely to the Rays. Arizona's defense couldn't stop the bleeding.
Tampa Bay Holds Strong to Win at Home
By the time the final outs rolled around, Tampa Bay had total control. Nick Martinez pitched brilliantly, giving the Rays 5.2 strong innings with just one run allowed. The bullpen sealed it tight. Cam Booser, Kevin Kelly, Garrett Cleavinger, and Craig Kimbrel all threw scoreless relief. Arizona's only run came from Perdomo's first-inning blast. That wasn't going to be enough on this night. The scoreboard showed 6-1 when the final strike came down. Tampa Bay improved to 45-33 and kept winning at home where they were unstoppable. Arizona fell to 41-39, their two-game win streak snapped by a Rays team firing on all cylinders. The Diamondbacks' pitching staff couldn't match Tampa's production.
