Rangers Strike Early as Diamondbacks Visit Texas
The Arizona Diamondbacks traveled to Texas to face the Rangers on Wednesday, May 13. Arizona came into the game looking to build on their previous victory, a thrilling 1-0 win over these same Rangers. However, things looked different on this night at the Rangers' home stadium. The Rangers jumped out to an early lead right away. By the end of nine innings, Texas dominated the matchup with a convincing 7-4 victory. Arizona's pitching staff, led by starter Zac Gallen, couldn't quite contain the Rangers' explosive offense. The loss dropped Arizona to 20-21 on the season. Texas improved to 20-22 with the win, evening up their records in this tight divisional battle. Both teams remained close in the standings, making every game matter for their playoff hopes.
Pederson and Duran Launch Home Runs Early On
Texas got rolling immediately when Joc Pederson launched a home run in the first inning. His powerful swing sent the ball soaring 380 feet to right field off a fastball traveling 93 miles per hour. The Rangers took an early 1-0 lead. Arizona answered back in the second inning when Ismel Vargas connected for his own home run, a towering shot to left-center field that traveled 422 feet. That tied the game at one apiece. Texas quickly regained the lead when Salvador Duran's single helped score another run, making it 2-1. Later in the fourth inning, Duran struck again with another home run to right, this one traveling 338 feet. The Rangers' bats were heating up as their lead grew to 3-1.
Rangers Explode in Fifth to Seal the Victory
The fifth inning became the turning point as Texas completely took over the game. Seager grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Nimmo, extending the Rangers' lead to 4-1. But that was just the beginning of a massive inning for Texas. Salvador Duran reached on an infield single, scoring Seager and pushing the advantage to 5-1. José Osuna then singled to center, bringing home Jung for the Rangers' sixth run. The Rangers weren't finished yet. Burger singled to right, and Duran scored easily for the seventh run. Arizona's pitching had completely fallen apart during this explosive stretch. The Rangers' lead ballooned to 7-1, effectively putting the game out of reach. Despite Arizona scoring three runs late in the ninth inning, they couldn't overcome the deficit and fell 7-4.
