Red Sox Strike Fast in Historic Fourth Inning
The Braves walked into Fenway Park still stinging from a 7-6 loss the night before. They needed to bounce back, but Boston had other plans. Connelly Early took the mound for the Red Sox and looked sharp. The fourth inning changed everything. Marcelo Mayer stepped up and reached first on an error by Matt Olson. Isiah Kiner-Falefa drove a single to left, scoring Mayer and bringing runners into scoring position. Then Ceddanne Rafaela crushed a single to left, and suddenly two more runs crossed the plate. Wilyer Abreu added a single to center, pushing two more runs in. The Red Sox had scored six runs in one inning without hitting a home run. The crowd at Fenway erupted. Atlanta's pitching staff couldn't slow down the Boston bats. The Braves trailed 6-0 and the game felt over already.
Boston's Bats Keep Pounding in the Seventh
You'd think after a six-run fourth inning the Red Sox would take their foot off the gas. Not a chance. In the seventh inning, Carlos Carrasco came in for Atlanta to try to stop the bleeding. Marcelo Mayer ripped a single to right field with two outs. Gasper sprinted home and Boston extended their lead to 7-0. The Red Sox weren't done yet. In the eighth inning, Jarren Duran stepped into the box facing Carrasco again. He wound up and connected on an 89-mile-per-hour cutter. The ball rocketed to right field and sailed over the wall. It was a solo shot, but it felt like the final dagger in a game that was already decided. The Red Sox had now scored eight unanswered runs. Atlanta's bats stayed completely silent. No Braves player could find the hit they needed. Boston owned this game from start to finish.
Early's Shutout Leads Red Sox to Dominant Victory
Connelly Early was the real star of this game. The Red Sox pitcher threw seven innings and gave up just four hits while striking out seven Braves. He walked three batters but never let them score. Early didn't allow a single run across those seven innings. It was a masterclass in pitching control. Ryan Watson came in for the final two innings and continued the shutout. The Braves lineup couldn't string together anything. Ozzie Albies went 1-for-3 with a walk. Jorge Mateo managed 2-for-4 but it didn't matter. Ronald Acuña Jr. struck out once and drew a walk. Michael Harris II went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. Austin Riley went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. Matt Olson struck out on offense and made that error on defense. Boston crushed Atlanta 8-0 at Fenway Park. The Braves fell to 37-20. The Red Sox improved to 24-31 and snapped their struggles with a complete performance.
