Braves beat Angels 7–2 at Angel Stadium
The Atlanta Braves visited the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium in Anaheim on Wednesday, April 8. Both teams wanted a win to build early-season momentum, and the Angels scored first. Los Angeles jumped ahead 2–0 in the first when Soler hit a two-run homer off a slider that left the bat at 109 mph and flew 366 feet. Atlanta answered in the second when White doubled home Olson to make it 2–1. The final score was 7–2 in favor of Atlanta, and the game turned into a clear Braves offensive day after the early Angels burst.
Early innings and Atlanta comeback
In the first inning the Angels struck quickly because Soler crushed a two-run homer with two outs. The pitch was an 84 mph slider that Trout rode home. Atlanta crept back in the second when White doubled home Olson on a full count slider, making it 2–1. Reynaldo López started for Atlanta and kept the game close while the Braves chipped away. The early plays set the tone because both bullpens tried to limit damage. Meanwhile the hitters adjusted and began getting louder in the lineup, showing patience and good contact against the Angels' starters.
Big fourth, late homers, and closing plays
The fourth inning became the turning point because Atlanta scored three runs to take the lead. Riley singled in Olson to tie the game, then White hit a sacrifice fly to score Riley and move Dubón to third. Heim followed with a single that brought Dubón home, making it 4–2. In the eighth Albies launched a solo homer to right center, pushing the lead to 5–2. In the ninth Baldwin singled home Yastrzemski and later Olson grounded into a double play that still allowed Acuña Jr. to score. The final three runs sealed a 7–2 Braves win at Angel Stadium.
