Braves Travel to San Francisco for Tough Matchup
The Atlanta Braves rolled into San Francisco looking to bounce back. They'd lost their last two games and needed a win badly. The Giants were struggling too, sitting 13 games below .500. But this Sunday, San Francisco's bats came alive at home. Logan Webb took the mound for the Giants, and he was locked in from the start. The Braves sent Bryce Elder to pitch, but Elder couldn't find his control early. Atlanta's lineup had won 49 games this season with stars like Matt Olson and Michael Harris II. Without Ronald Acuña Jr. on the injured list, the Braves were already missing punch. Spencer Strider and Robert Suarez were also out. San Francisco needed this game to stop their losing ways. The final score told the story: Giants 5, Braves 0. It was a shutout that nobody saw coming for Atlanta.
Devers Goes Deep Twice as Giants Build Lead Fast
The second inning exploded into chaos for Atlanta. Rafael Devers stepped up and crushed a 91 mph fastball from Bryce Elder. The ball rocketed toward center field and sailed over the wall for a solo homer 404 feet away. The crowd at the Giants' stadium jumped to their feet. The score was 1-0 San Francisco. Then Drew Gilbert came up with two outs and lofted a sacrifice fly to left field. Bryce Eldridge scored on the play, making it 2-0. Things got worse in the third inning. Devers came back to the plate and smashed an 83 mph slider to right field. This time he didn't come alone. Arraez and Schmitt scored with him on a three-run blast 359 feet deep. The Giants led 5-0. Atlanta's pitching staff couldn't stop the bleeding. Elder gave up five runs in just four innings pitched.
Giants Shut Out Atlanta for Their Second Straight Win
The Braves tried to mount a comeback, but the Giants' pitching was unstoppable. Logan Webb stayed dominant on the mound. He pitched seven innings of total control, giving up just one hit and no runs. Webb struck out six batters and walked two. Grant Holmes came in for the Braves and pitched four solid innings with four strikeouts. But it didn't matter. Atlanta's offense couldn't crack the Giants' defense. The Braves' best hitters—Olson, Riley, Albies, and Harris II—all went quiet. None of them recorded a hit. Michael Harris II did steal a base, but it led nowhere. Matt Olson struck out once. Austin Riley struck out twice. The final out came and the Giants celebrated. San Francisco won 5-0 and improved to 35-48. Atlanta dropped to 49-34. The Braves had lost three straight games. They were 0-3 since beating the Giants on Saturday.
