The Orioles Strike Fast in Boston
The Red Sox had just lost 8-1 the night before, and they needed a bounce-back game badly. Baltimore came to Fenway Park ready to prove something different. Trevor Rogers took the mound for the Orioles, while Brayan Bello pitched for Boston. Right away, things went wrong for the Red Sox. Adley Rutschman hit a single up the middle in the first inning. Ward scored easily. The Orioles kept attacking. Leody Taveras singled to right. Then Coby Mayo ripped a double to left that cleared the bases. Three runners scored on that one swing. Taylor Ward singled next, and Mayo came home. Just like that, it was 6-0 Orioles before Boston could even breathe.
Baltimore Keeps Pounding the Ball
Bello was still on the mound when the Orioles came back in the fifth inning. Samuel Basallo doubled to right. Pete Alonso scored on that hit. The damage wasn't done yet. Colton Cowser stepped up with two outs and sent a sacrifice fly to right. Basallo tagged up and sprinted home. That made it 8-0 Orioles. Boston's pitcher was getting shelled. The Red Sox had to make a pitching change. Trevor Rogers, the Orioles' starter, was dominant on the mound. He held Boston to just one run through almost six innings. He struck out three batters and barely walked anyone. The Orioles' bats were unstoppable. Every hit seemed to find a gap or find grass.
Red Sox Make Late Push But Fall Short
The Red Sox finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning. Willson Contreras singled to left. Ceddanne Rafaela scored from second base. That made it 8-1. Boston wasn't going away without a fight. In the ninth inning, Contreras came back up and crushed a home run to left. The ball rocketed 403 feet. It was a massive blast. But it was too little, too late. The Orioles won 8-2. Baltimore improved to 30-33 after the win. Boston fell to 26-35. The Orioles' pitching and hitting were just too much. Rogers got the win. The Red Sox needed to find answers fast.
