Baltimore Strikes First Under the Lights
The Baltimore Orioles rolled into Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati ready for a fight. The Reds were coming off a win, sitting at 40-46 on the season. Baltimore arrived at 40-48 but had just won their last game and wanted to keep that streak alive. Brady Singer took the mound for Cincinnati, his sinker clicking at 90 mph right away. But the Orioles wasted no time making noise. In the first inning, Gunnar Henderson sprinted home when catcher Tyler Stephenson made a throwing error. Taylor Ward stole third base on the same play. The ball was in play, the defense crumbled, and suddenly Baltimore led 1-0. Henderson's speed made the difference. You could feel the energy shift. The Orioles were hungry.
Basallo's Blast Puts Game Out of Reach
The third inning is where Baltimore really took over. Samuel Basallo stepped up to face Brady Singer with two outs. Singer threw a 91 mph sinker that Basallo didn't miss. The ball rocketed off his bat toward left-center field. It flew 375 feet and cleared the wall. Basallo had his home run. But Adley Rutschman was on base, so that meant two runs scoring at once. The Orioles jumped to a 3-0 lead. Cincinnati's pitcher had no answer. The Reds couldn't catch up after that. Trevor Rogers was dominant on the mound for Baltimore, striking out batters and keeping Cincinnati's hitters off balance. Singer walked five batters and gave up three runs in five innings. The Reds were shut down completely. Baltimore's pitching staff was locked in and ready for this division battle.
Orioles' Pitching Keeps Cincinnati Scoreless
Cincinnati never found their rhythm all night long. The Reds scratched and clawed but couldn't break through. Elly De La Cruz was one of the few Reds who made contact, stealing two bases to show his speed and athleticism. But stolen bases don't win games without runs to score. Brady Singer struggled with control, walking five batters. Rico Garcia came in from the Baltimore bullpen and was lights out. He pitched two innings without allowing a run. Yennier Cano threw another clean inning. Tyler Wells came in to close it out with a save. The final score was Baltimore 3, Cincinnati 0. The Orioles improved their record and left Cincinnati with a huge road win. Trevor Rogers earned the victory. Baltimore's pitching staff dominated, shutting down the entire Reds lineup on Independence Day eve.
