Guardians Strike Early Against Baltimore
The Baltimore Orioles traveled to Cleveland on Sunday, April 19, looking to bounce back from a tough loss. Just the day before, the Guardians had beaten the Orioles four to two with strong pitching and timely hits. Now Baltimore's ace Trevor Rogers took the mound, facing Cleveland's Joey Cantillo. Early in the game, the Guardians jumped out to a lead. In the third inning, Kwan hit a sacrifice fly that brought Hedges home, giving Cleveland a one-to-zero advantage. The Orioles' offense stayed quiet through the first four innings, unable to generate much momentum against Cantillo's pitching.
Cleveland Explodes With Powerful Hitting Display
Everything changed in the fourth inning when Cleveland's bats came alive. José Ramírez crushed a home run to left-center field, traveling four hundred eight feet with an exit velocity of one hundred six miles per hour. The ball soared majestically over the wall as the crowd erupted. Right after that, Brito doubled to center, scoring two more runs. Rocchio followed with a single to left, bringing another run across the plate. Before the inning ended, Cleveland had scored four runs total, taking a commanding five-to-zero lead. Baltimore's pitching suddenly looked vulnerable as the Guardians' powerful hitters dominated the game.
Orioles Rally Late But Fall Short
Baltimore finally answered in the fifth inning when Ward hit a tremendous home run to left field, traveling three hundred ninety-four feet and scoring two additional runners. Beavers grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Alonso and bringing Baltimore within one. However, Ramírez blasted another home run in the bottom of the fifth, extending Cleveland's lead to six to four. In the eighth inning, Rocchio delivered the knockout punch with a single to center field, scoring two more runs. When the game ended, Cleveland had won decisively, eight to four. The Guardians improved to thirteen and ten, while the Orioles fell to ten and twelve after suffering their second straight loss.
