Orioles Strike First, But Mariners Stay Patient
The Orioles came to Seattle riding a three-game losing streak, hungry to climb back into the race. The Mariners sat at 38-36, just one game above .500, fighting to stay in contention. Both teams needed a win badly. Right away in the first inning, the Orioles jumped ahead. Samuel Basallo stepped up with runners on and smacked a single to right field. Taylor Ward came racing home. Baltimore led 1-0. The Mariners answered fast. In the third inning, with Miles Mastrobuoni on base, Julio Rodriguez lined a single to left. Mastrobuoni sprinted home to tie it up. The score stayed locked at 1-1 heading into the late innings. You could feel the tension building. One mistake would decide this game.
Seattle Explodes Late With Perfect Pitching From Gilbert
Logan Gilbert took the mound for Seattle and was absolutely brilliant. He threw seven innings of two-hit baseball, striking out ten Orioles hitters. The Baltimore offense simply could not solve him. Then in the seventh inning, the Mariners' bats finally woke up. Grant Wolfram came in pitching for Baltimore, and Cal Raleigh stepped into the box. Raleigh connected on a 95-mile-per-hour sinker and drove it into center field. Colt Emerson raced home. Victor Robles sprinted across the plate. Suddenly Seattle led 3-1. Just like that, the game shifted completely. The Mariners' pitching staff locked things down tight after that. Gilbert's dominance early gave Seattle the foundation they needed to hold on.
Mariners Hold Strong to Secure Victory in Baltimore Series
The Mariners' bullpen shut the door in the final two innings. Eduard Bazardo pitched one inning without allowing a run. Andres Munoz came in for the save and closed it down perfectly. Baltimore's lineup never recovered from Gilbert's shutdown pitching. Gunnar Henderson went zero-for-four. Jackson Holliday struck out twice. Pete Alonso drew a walk but couldn't push across the crucial run. The final score read Seattle 3, Baltimore 1. It was a gutsy victory for the Mariners. Seattle improved to 39-36. Baltimore dropped to 34-41, their fourth straight loss. The Orioles need to regroup quickly. The Mariners showed they can win even when their offense struggles, leaning on their elite pitching staff.
