Orioles Strike First, Then Blue Jays Wake Up
The Baltimore Orioles came into Rogers Centre riding a tough loss. They'd dropped the night before 13-3, so they needed a win badly. The Toronto Blue Jays hosted them on Saturday looking to bounce back themselves. You could feel the energy shift early. Colton Cowser launched a rocket to right-center on a 97 mph sinker from Spencer Miles. The ball sailed 427 feet into the stands. Baltimore led 1-0 before Toronto even got up to bat. But the Blue Jays answered fast. Kazuma Okamoto singled to left and Ernie Clement scored. Then Clement crushed a slider into the left field seats. Two runners came home. Toronto grabbed a 4-1 lead. Andres Gimenez added another run with a single. The Orioles struck first, but Toronto's bats caught fire immediately and took control of the game's momentum early.
The Middle Innings: Alonso and Alexander Answer Back
The Orioles weren't done fighting. In the sixth inning, Pete Alonso stepped up against Jeff Hoffman. The slugger got a 97 mph fastball and didn't miss it. The ball flew to right-center and cleared the wall 421 feet away. Gunnar Henderson scored. Suddenly it was 3-6, and Baltimore had momentum again. You could see the Orioles were in this game. The next inning brought more excitement for Baltimore. Blaze Alexander came up and faced Mason Fluharty. A sweeper came in at 80 mph. Alexander locked in and drove it deep to left-center. The ball carried 386 feet for a solo home run. Alexander touched the plate and made it 4-6. Two massive home runs from Alonso and Alexander kept Baltimore fighting. The Orioles clawed back, making it a one-run game heading toward the final stretch. Both teams had stars delivering when it mattered most.
Toronto Holds On for Victory in Close Battle
The game stayed tight. Toronto's pitchers held Baltimore down the rest of the way. Keegan Akin threw two strong innings for Baltimore, allowing just one run. Albert Suarez pitched two scoreless innings to keep the Orioles close. But Toronto's bullpen was solid too. Tyler Rogers struck out one batter without giving up a hit. Louis Varland got the save. The Blue Jays' lineup came alive early and held on. Brandon Valenzuela went 3-for-3 and drove in runs. Ernie Clement's three-run homer made a huge difference. When the final out came, Toronto had won 6-4. The Orioles fell to 31-34. Toronto improved to 31-34 themselves. It was a thrilling game that came down to who could hit better early. The Blue Jays took advantage of their chances and celebrated another win at home. Baltimore walked away frustrated but knowing they'd competed hard.
