Abreu Blasts Boston to Fast Start
The Boston Red Sox came into Coors Field ready to bounce back. They had lost 3-2 the night before, but today was different. Right from the first inning, Wilyer Abreu set the tone. He crushed a triple to center field off Sean Sullivan's sweeper, and Nate Eaton raced home. Boston led 1-0. Two innings later, Abreu came up again and this time he went deep. His 443-foot home run soared over center field and gave the Red Sox a 3-1 lead. The young outfielder was on fire. Sonny Gray took the mound for Boston and pitched like a star. He struck out 11 Colorado batters through seven strong innings. Meanwhile, Willi Castro hit a solo shot for the Rockies in the second inning. But it wasn't enough to keep pace with Boston's early surge.
Eaton Drives in Two Late Runs
In the sixth inning, the Red Sox kept pounding. Nate Eaton stepped up against relief pitcher Zach Agnos and doubled down the left field line. Anthony Seigler, who had been on base, raced home to make it 4-1. The inning wasn't over yet. Ceddanne Rafaela came to the plate with Eaton still on second. He slapped a single to left, and Eaton crossed home plate again. Now Boston led 5-1 and looked completely in control. Sonny Gray had been brilliant all night. His 11 strikeouts showed why the Red Sox trusted him as a key part of their pitching staff. Colorado's batters couldn't catch up to his stuff. The Rockies were struggling, and their pitchers couldn't slow down Boston's hot bats.
Colorado Makes Late Push But Falls Short
The Rockies refused to quit. In the ninth inning, Ezequiel Tovar connected on a changeup from Boston reliever Garrett Whitlock. The ball zoomed to left field for a 380-foot home run. Colorado was on the board again, making it 5-2. But it was too little, too late. The Red Sox had built their lead too big. Boston walked away with a 5-2 victory to improve to 33-45. Colorado dropped to 31-49 and fell further back. Nate Eaton led the way for Boston with three hits and two RBIs. Wilyer Abreu's two-run power display showed why he's one of the team's best. The Red Sox pitching staff, led by Gray's dominant seven innings, held firm when it mattered most. Boston got back on track after yesterday's loss.
