Yankees Strike Early, Red Sox Fight Back
The Yankees came into this game hungry for a win at Yankee Stadium. Boston had won yesterday 5-3, so New York wanted revenge. The Red Sox were struggling all season with a 27-36 record. The Yankees were much stronger at 38-26. But the night started fast. In the first inning, Jose Caballero scored on a sharp single from Paul Goldschmidt. The ball jumped off his bat and shot into right field. That made it 1-0 Yankees. Then Boston answered back. Ceddanne Rafaela scored when Willson Contreras doubled down the left field line. Contreras was fighting hard at the plate, showing the power that makes him a three-time All-Star. Suddenly it was 1-1 and the game was alive.
Bellinger and Chisholm Jr. Explode the Game Open
Everything changed in the eighth inning when the Yankees' bats came alive. Cody Bellinger stepped up and crushed a fastball deep to right center field. The ball soared 394 feet and cleared the wall. That made it 1-2 Yankees and the crowd went wild. Then Trent Grisham slapped a single to right, scoring Amed Rosario. It was 1-3 now and the damage was just beginning. Next came Jazz Chisholm Jr., the athletic second baseman with blazing speed. He got a pitch he liked and launched it into right center, a 411-foot bomb. Two more runners crossed home plate behind him. The ball disappeared into the night. Just like that, the Yankees had scored five runs in one wild inning. Boston's pitching completely fell apart. The score jumped to 1-6 and the game was over.
Yankees' Dominant Performance Closes Out Boston
The Yankees proved too much for Boston on this Sunday night. New York's pitching kept the Red Sox quiet for most of the game. Ranger Suarez pitched well for Boston, giving 6.1 innings with just one earned run. But the Red Sox lineup never got rolling. Jarren Duran and Masataka Yoshida went zero-for-four. Wilyer Abreu also struck out. The Yankees' bats did all the talking. Ceddanne Rafaela was Boston's bright spot with two hits. But one player was not enough. The final score was Yankees 6, Red Sox 1. With this win, New York climbed to 38-26 for the season. Boston fell to 27-36. The Yankees had already won the day before at home. Now they owned this series. The Red Sox headed back to Boston looking for answers.
