Colorado Crushes Cubs in Early Power Display
The Chicago Cubs traveled to Denver looking for their second straight win after losing 3-0 the night before. Instead, the Colorado Rockies put on a power show at Coors Field. The ball was flying out of the park right from the start. Hunter Goodman crushed a massive home run in the first inning—a 413-foot bomb that rocketed into right center field. Ezequiel Tovar followed up with his own blast in the second inning, a 433-foot shot to left center. The Rockies kept piling on. Edouard Julien smacked a double down the middle, and Jake McCarthy lined a single to center. By the time the second inning ended, Colorado led 5-0. The Cubs' starter Colin Rea was getting hit hard. This was not how Chicago wanted the game to start.
Cubs Fight Back But Rockies Stay in Front
The Cubs refused to go away without a fight. In the third inning, Alex Bregman stepped up with two outs and lifted a sacrifice fly to left field. Dansby Swanson tagged up and scored, getting Chicago on the board at 5-1. The damage kept coming for the Rockies. Edouard Julien singled to center in the third, and two runs raced home—Hunter Goodman and Troy Johnston scored. That made it 7-1 Colorado. The Cubs got another run back when Michael Busch launched a solo home run in the sixth inning. It was a 424-foot shot to right center, a beautiful swing from the powerful first baseman. Seiya Suzuki added an RBI when his ground out scored Alex Bregman. Still, the Cubs trailed by four runs.
Rockies Hold On for Dominant 7-3 Victory
The Rockies' pitching staff took over from there and shut the Cubs down. Tomoyuki Sugano was strong for Colorado, pitching five innings and allowing three runs on six hits. The relief pitchers did their job—Seth Halvorsen, Brennan Bernardino, Antonio Senzatela, and Jaden Hill all came in and kept Chicago off the board. The Cubs could not mount a comeback. Their lineup had talented hitters like Michael Busch, Seiya Suzuki, and Dansby Swanson, but they could not catch up. Denver's young stars—Hunter Goodman, Ezequiel Tovar, and Edouard Julien—delivered the big hits when it mattered. Colorado won 7-3, improving to 25-42. The Cubs fell to 34-33, now losers of three straight games. It was a rough night for Chicago's pitching staff.
