Cubs Bounce Back After Losing Three Straight
The Chicago Cubs came to Colorado hungry to turn things around. They'd lost three games in a row and dropped the night before 7-3. Now they faced the Rockies at Coors Field in Denver, ready to fight back. The Cubs' pitching staff was dealing without ace Jameson Taillon, who landed on the injured list with a hamstring problem. Edward Cabrera took the mound for Chicago and looked sharp early. The Rockies struck first when Brett Sullivan crushed a fastball 434 feet into right field for a solo shot in the first inning. The Cubs trailed 1-0, but they were ready to answer back big.
Suzuki and Bregman Launch Cubs to Big Lead
The fourth inning exploded into pure chaos. Seiya Suzuki stepped up and smacked a 96-mile-per-hour fastball 400 feet to left field. The ball sailed over the wall, and three runners raced home with him. The Cubs suddenly led 4-1. Pete Crow-Armstrong, Michael Busch, and Ian Happ all scored on that one swing. The Rockies answered right back when Cole Carrigg cranked a solo homer to right. Then in the fifth, Michael Busch singled and drove in Dansby Swanson, then Happ lifted a sacrifice fly that scored Alex Bregman. Chicago led 6-2. In the seventh, Bregman crushed a two-run shot 410 feet to left. Crow-Armstrong scored again. The Cubs were dominating 8-2.
Cubs Hold on Through the Final Inning
The Cubs kept their foot on the gas. In the eighth inning, Carson Kelly smashed a fastball 428 feet into left field for his own solo home run. Chicago led 9-2 and looked like they had this game locked down. The Rockies refused to quit completely. In the ninth, Brett Sullivan crushed his second home run of the game, a 388-foot blast to right field. The final score was Cubs 9, Rockies 3. Chicago's bats had woken up and delivered exactly what they needed. The Cubs improved to 35-34 with this big road win. Colorado dropped to 26-43. For the Cubs, this victory snapped their losing streak and gave them real hope heading forward.
