The Cubs Strike First in Milwaukee
The Chicago Cubs came to American Family Field with something to prove. They'd won their last four games and sat at 44-37 on the season. The Milwaukee Brewers were even hotter, though—winners of four straight themselves and leading the division at 49-29. You could feel the energy building as Colin Rea took the mound for Chicago. Then boom. In the fifth inning, Seiya Suzuki stepped up against Jacob Misiorowski. On a 90-mile-per-hour slider, Suzuki made perfect contact. The ball rocketed 409 feet into center field. Cubs up 1-0. One swing changed everything early.
Brewers Explode in the Sixth and Seventh
Milwaukee didn't stay quiet for long. Ethan Roberts came on in relief for the Cubs, and the Brewers' bats came alive immediately. In the sixth inning, Garrett Mitchell crushed a 407-foot home run to right-center. Jake Bauers scored on the blast. Moments later, David Hamilton tripled to left field, and Cooper Pratt raced home. Just like that, Milwaukee led 3-1. Then the seventh inning got worse for Chicago. William Contreras stepped up against Jayden Murray and absolutely demolished a pitch. His home run flew 449 feet to left-center, and Jackson Chourio scored ahead of him. Brewers now led 5-1. The Cubs' pitching staff couldn't stop the bleeding.
Milwaukee Holds On for a Complete Victory
The Cubs refused to quit. In the eighth inning, Seiya Suzuki stepped up again and hit a sacrifice fly to center field. Pete Crow-Armstrong scored from third base to make it 5-2. But Milwaukee answered right back. Christian Yelich doubled to left, and Cooper Pratt scored on the play. Brewers led 6-2. That was all the runs either team could muster. Jacob Misiorowski picked up the win for Milwaukee, striking out eight batters over six innings. Trevor Megill closed it out in the ninth. The Brewers improved to 49-29 and stayed ahead in the division. The Cubs fell to 44-38 despite a strong effort. Milwaukee's power display was simply too much.
