The Brewers Strike First, But Chicago Answers Back
The Cubs came to Miller Park hungry for revenge. They'd lost the night before, 6-2, and wanted to show Milwaukee they belonged in this series. The Brewers had other ideas. Jackson Chourio smacked David Peterson's first pitch into the center field bleachers to give Milwaukee an instant 1-0 lead. You could feel the energy shift in the ballpark. But Chicago's bats woke up fast. In the fourth inning, Seiya Suzuki crushed a fastball from Kyle Harrison over the right field wall. Matt Shaw scored ahead of him, and just like that, the Cubs led 2-1. The momentum had swung completely. These teams were trading blows early, and neither wanted to back down.
The Cubs Explode in the Sixth, Game Gets Out of Hand
The sixth inning is where Chicago took complete control. Nico Hoerner ripped a single to right field, and two runs scored right away—Bregman and Busch crossed the plate. But the Cubs weren't done. Ian Happ stepped up to the plate and launched a three-run bomb to right field. The ball flew 381 feet and the Cubs led 6-2. Milwaukee's pitching was crumbling. In the seventh inning, Alex Bregman delivered a sacrifice fly to left field, and Shaw scored again. Chicago's lineup was absolutely rolling. Every batter seemed to find a way to get on base or drive in runs. The Brewers couldn't stop the bleeding. Peterson pitched solidly for the Cubs, and the bullpen was sharp. Milwaukee was getting overwhelmed.
Conforto Caps the Cubs' Victory with Late-Game Homer
The ninth inning wrapped up this blowout nicely. Michael Conforto stepped into the batter's box against Joel Kuhnel and didn't waste time. He crushed a fastball over the right-center field wall for his third home run of the season. The ball soared 401 feet, and the Cubs were officially up 8-2. Game over. Chicago had completely dominated Milwaukee after getting punched in the mouth early. The Cubs improved to 45-38 with this win, while the Brewers fell to 50-30 despite their five-game winning streak. Peterson got the win for Chicago, throwing five and two-thirds strong innings. The Cubs' lineup came alive when it mattered most, showing they could battle with anyone in the division.
