Cubs Come to Milwaukee Looking for a Series Win
The Chicago Cubs rolled into Miller Park in Milwaukee riding a two-game winning streak. They had just crushed the Brewers 8-2 the night before, and their bats were hot. Milwaukee came in as the division leaders at 50-31, but they were struggling with two straight losses. Chicago sat at 46-38, desperate to stay close in the race. The Cubs' pitching staff was short-handed with Jameson Taillon hurt, but they believed they could compete. You could feel the energy building as both teams took the field. This was baseball at its best—two teams fighting for every single run.
Sanchez Strikes Early, Cubs Stay Calm and Focused
Gary Sanchez stepped up for Milwaukee in the second inning with Ryan Rolison throwing for the Cubs. Sanchez crushed a fastball that rocketed over the left-field wall—415 feet of pure power. The crowd erupted as the Brewers took an early 1-0 lead. But Chicago didn't panic. The Cubs' pitching staff settled in. Bryse Wilson took over and pitched beautifully through the middle innings, allowing nothing. By the seventh inning, the score was still 1-1. Then Aaron Ashby threw a wild pitch that let Ian Happ score easily. Chicago went ahead 2-1 with great pitching and smart base running keeping them in control.
Cubs Rally Late to Beat the Brewers in Tenth
The game stayed tight and moved into extra innings tied 1-1. In the tenth inning, Chicago loaded the bases with smart hitting and the Brewers' errors. Pete Crow-Armstrong stole second to put pressure on Milwaukee. Michael Busch walked, scoring Justin Dean to put the Cubs up 2-1. Then Seiya Suzuki came through in the clutch with a single to left that scored both Bregman and Crow-Armstrong. Chicago went ahead 4-1. Milwaukee battled back in the bottom of the tenth. Christian Yelich singled and Joey Ortiz scored quickly. But the Brewers couldn't catch up. Jordan Wicks shut the door, and Chicago won 4-3. The Cubs improved to 47-38 and stayed alive in the division race.
