Cubs Jump Out Early in San Francisco
The Chicago Cubs came to Oracle Park looking to keep their winning streak alive. They'd beaten the Giants 5-1 just yesterday, and the offense was hot. The Giants were struggling at 28-43 and needed everything to go right. Right from the start, the Cubs made noise. Pete Crow-Armstrong stepped up in the first inning and crushed a fastball to left center. The ball flew 385 feet and landed in the seats. One swing, and Chicago led 1-0. That home run set the tone for the whole game. Crow-Armstrong was on fire, and the Giants' pitcher Trevor McDonald was already in trouble. The Cubs meant business on this Sunday afternoon in June.
Cubs Pile On Runs in Innings 3 Through 5
By the third inning, things got wild for Chicago. Seiya Suzuki, playing as the designated hitter because of a knee issue, lined a single to left. That brought Crow-Armstrong home. Then Michael Busch stole home on a wild play, and the Cubs led 3-0. The Giants got one back when Luis Arraez tripled to center, scoring a run. But Chicago wasn't done. In the fourth inning, Busch walked with runners on base, and Swanson scored. Now it was 4-1. The fifth inning was the knockout punch. Ian Happ launched a massive 404-foot homer to left field. One batter later, Pedro Ramirez sent a 414-foot rocket to center. Two swings, two homers. The Cubs were unstoppable. The score was 6-1, and San Francisco had no answer.
Cubs Cruise to Victory Behind Ben Brown
The rest of the game belonged to the Cubs. Ben Brown, the starting pitcher, threw five solid innings for Chicago. He gave up just one run on seven hits while striking out three. His relief crew was even better. Ethan Roberts, Caleb Thielbar, and Phil Maton combined to pitch the final four innings without allowing a single run. The Giants never threatened after the fifth inning. They just couldn't catch up. Crow-Armstrong finished with three hits and two runs scored. Happ went deep, Ramirez went deep, and the Cubs' bats woke up completely. San Francisco managed only one run on Luis Arraez's triple. When the final out came, Chicago had won 6-1. The Cubs improved to 38-34 and kept rolling. The Giants fell to 28-43, stuck in last place. Another tough day in the Bay Area for San Francisco.
