Sam Antonacci launches White Sox ahead early
The White Sox and Tigers squared off at Comerica Park in Detroit on Saturday night. Chicago came in hungry after losing 3-4 the night before. The Tigers owned a 32-44 record while the White Sox sat at 39-36, needing every win they could grab. Right away, the action heated up. Sam Antonacci stepped to the plate against Troy Melton in the first inning. Melton fired a 94 mph fastball right down the middle. Antonacci didn't miss it. The ball rocketed off his bat toward right-center field and sailed over the wall. Home run! The White Sox jumped to a 1-0 lead before Detroit even stepped up to bat. Antonacci's power swing gave Chicago the early advantage they desperately wanted.
Tigers strike back with a three-run explosion
Detroit's pitchers shut down the White Sox bats for the next few innings. Then came the fifth. Dillon Dingler stepped in with two outs. Joe Rock was on the mound for Chicago, and he delivered a 93 mph fastball. Dingler made solid contact. The ball found its way to right field. McKinstry raced home from third. The Tigers tied it 1-1. But Detroit wasn't done. In the sixth inning, James Outman slapped a single to right. Torkelson scored easily. Then Jake Rogers followed with another single to center field. Outman sprinted home. The Tigers went up 1-3. Detroit's bats were firing now, and the White Sox pitching staff couldn't find the answers they needed.
Detroit closes out Chicago with another home run
The Tigers' lead grew even bigger in the seventh inning. Dingler came to bat again, this time facing Trevor Richards. Richards threw a 92 mph fastball. Dingler crushed it. The ball flew deep to center field and disappeared over the wall. Home run number two for Dingler! The Tigers extended their lead to 1-4. It was the back-breaker Chicago couldn't recover from. The White Sox needed baserunners and runs, but the Tigers' pitching took over. Troy Melton pitched six strong innings with just one hit allowed. Tyler Holton and closer Kenley Jansen locked down the final three innings. Detroit's defense stayed sharp the entire night. When the final out was recorded, Detroit had won 4-1. The Tigers improved to 33-44. Chicago fell to 39-37, still searching for consistency on this road trip.
