Angels Dominate White Sox in Wednesday Showdown
The Chicago White Sox visited the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday, May 6, bringing their rebuild dreams to Anaheim. Coming off a tough loss the previous game, the White Sox hoped to bounce back against the Angels. However, the home team had other plans. When the final out was recorded, the Angels had crushed the White Sox eight to two. This lopsided victory showed the struggles Chicago faced early in the season. The Angels, meanwhile, picked up their second straight win with an explosive performance. Both teams entered needing momentum, yet only Los Angeles delivered the dominant display fans expected. The White Sox's young pitching staff faced real challenges against the Angels' powerful lineup. It was a difficult evening for Chicago's rebuilding roster.
Second Inning Explosion Powers Angels to Control
The game's turning point came quickly in the bottom of the second inning. That's when the Angels' offense unleashed an explosive barrage of hits and power. It all started when d'Arnaud crushed a fastball deep to left field for a three-run homer, traveling three hundred ninety-six feet with an exit velocity of one hundred four miles per hour. The ball soared high over the wall as the crowd erupted. After that blast, Neto tripled to right field, driving in another run with a low line drive. Then Trout added an infield single, collecting his hit while runners scored. Soler was hit by a pitch, forcing in yet another run. The Angels scored five total runs in that single inning, nearly putting the game away early. Chicago's pitchers simply couldn't escape the inning's chaos.
White Sox Score Late but Fall Short of Comeback
The White Sox refused to go down without a fight, despite trailing badly. In the second inning, Benintendi hit a sacrifice fly to center field, driving in Montgomery for Chicago's first run. The ball traveled three hundred eighty-five feet with impressive exit velocity of one hundred one miles per hour. Much later, in the seventh inning, Antonacci was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing Meidroth to score. This brought the White Sox closer to eight to two. However, their late scoring proved insufficient against the Angels' powerful offensive display. The Angels added one more run in the eighth inning when Neto lifted a sacrifice fly to right. Although Chicago showed resilience by scoring in multiple innings, the early hole proved too deep. The Angels' second-inning explosion had essentially decided the outcome before the White Sox could mount any serious threat or comeback attempt.
