Yankees Strike Fast at Home After Tough Loss
The Yankees were hungry. They'd just lost to the White Sox 12-2 the night before, and now Chicago was back at Yankee Stadium for more. New York came into this game with a 44-27 record. Chicago sat at 38-33 with a one-game losing streak. The White Sox were without Munetaka Murakami at first base due to a hamstring injury. But they still had Colson Montgomery, their star young shortstop who could hit the ball a mile. The Yankees were missing Aaron Judge in right field with a rib stress fracture. This game would tell us a lot about who wanted it more. Let's see how it unfolded.
Bellinger and Montgomery Trade Early Bombs
Cody Bellinger stepped up first inning and the Yankees' slugger connected immediately. The ball rocketed over the right center field wall. Two runs scored with that one swing. Chicago fired back in the third inning when Colson Montgomery came through with power of his own. His home run to right center went 384 feet. Two more White Sox runners crossed the plate. It was a shootout. Then the Yankees kept pounding in the fifth inning. Jose Caballero singled to right and two more runs scored. Paul Goldschmidt followed with a monster home run to right that flew 349 feet. Volpe and Sanchez both came home. The game had become an offensive battle at this point. New York's bats were too much.
Montgomery Goes Deep Again as White Sox Fall Short
Colson Montgomery was not done yet. In the eighth inning, he stepped in again and hit another home run—this one traveled 412 feet to center field. One more run for Chicago. It was a blast that showed why he's the future of the White Sox. Sam Antonacci also went yard in the ninth inning on a ball that sailed 422 feet to right center. But it was too little, too late. The Yankees had built too big a lead. Jazz Chisholm Jr. had also crushed one to right center in the seventh for 398 feet. By the time Chicago got going, New York had already put the game away. The final score was Yankees 10, White Sox 5. New York improved to 45-27. Chicago fell to 38-34. The Yankees' third straight win kept them rolling at home.
