Philadelphia Takes Early Lead at Home
The White Sox rolled into Philadelphia ready to battle. The Phillies sat at 34-29, riding a four-game winning streak. Chicago came in at 33-30, hungry to bounce back after a loss the night before. This game would be played at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
The White Sox struck first. In the second inning, Sam Antonacci raced home on a sharp double by Luisangel Acuña off a 97-mile-per-hour fastball from Jesus Luzardo. Then Tristan Peters slapped a single to center, and Acuña scored. Chicago led 2-0.
But the Phillies answered fast. Brandon Marsh crushed a 401-foot bomb to center field off Anthony Kay. J.T. Realmuto came home with him. The crowd roared. Then things got wild. Alec Bohm ripped a double to left, and two more runs scored. Philadelphia had flipped the script. After two innings, the Phillies led 5-2.
Grichuk and Hill Keep White Sox Alive
Randal Grichuk became the hero for Chicago. The powerful slugger launched a 370-foot rocket over the left-center wall in the third inning. The score was now 5-3. Grichuk wasn't done yet. In the fifth inning, he stepped up again and crushed a 418-foot bomb deep to left-center. Wow. Chicago cut it to 6-5.
Derek Hill added power too. In the sixth inning, Hill smashed a 383-foot home run to left-center off Luzardo's changeup. The game was tied at 6-6. The White Sox were roaring back. Then in the seventh, Colson Montgomery singled to right, and Chase Meidroth raced home. Chicago took a 7-6 lead. The drama was building. Would the Phillies find an answer?
Phillies Rally Late to Win It All
The seventh inning exploded. Edmundo Sosa lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, and Kyle Schwarber sprinted home. Philadelphia tied it 7-7. But the drama wasn't over. A wild pitch from Seranthony Dominguez got loose, and suddenly runners were dancing around the bases. Trea Turner scored on the wild pitch. Realmuto moved to second. Bryce Harper slid into third. The Phillies took the lead 8-7.
That was it. The White Sox couldn't score again. The Phillies held on for the 8-6 victory. Philadelphia improved to 35-29. Chicago dropped to 33-31. The game came down to one wild inning of chaos and quick thinking. Sometimes baseball is decided not by who hits the most home runs, but by who stays sharp when everything gets crazy.
