Game night in Miami and final result
The Cincinnati Reds visited the Miami Marlins at loanDepot park in Miami on Tuesday, April 7. The Reds wanted to win and cover early pitching questions, while the Marlins hoped their pitching would hold. Miami took a 2–0 lead in the fourth inning on two groundouts that pushed runs home. The game stayed close because both teams battled through many innings without scoring. After nine innings the score was tied 2–2, and then the game went to extra innings. Cincinnati finally pulled away in the tenth and won 6–3, thrilling the road crowd and ending a tight game.
Early action and how the score first changed
Miami grabbed the first runs in the fourth inning when they had the bases loaded. With one out, Lopez grounded to second and Ramírez scored on a hard 106 mph grounder. One batter later, Hernández grounded out and Marsee scored, making it 2–0 Miami. Both plays were groundouts that pushed runs home, so the fielders made plays but the runs still counted. Cincinnati avoided more damage because pitchers settled down after that inning. The early lead forced the Reds to chase runs, and the crowd watched nervously as both teams traded tough defense.
Late comeback, extra innings, and finish
Cincinnati rallied late to tie the game in the ninth inning. De La Cruz scored on a wild pitch and then Stewart hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2–2. The game went to the tenth, where Cincinnati erupted. Lowe singled to center and Steer scored, giving the Reds the lead. McLain then doubled and scored two more, making it 5–2, and a groundout brought home another run for a 6–2 margin. Miami added one in the bottom of the tenth on a fielder's choice, but it was too late. Cincinnati won 6–3 and improved their record to 7-3.
