Yankees Strike Early Behind Chisholm and Rice
The Cincinnati Reds came into Yankee Stadium looking to bounce back. They'd lost their last game and needed to stop the bleeding. But the Yankees had other plans. The home crowd was ready to roar. New York sat at 45-28, riding a strong season. Cincinnati rolled in at 35-38, searching for wins. Rhett Lowder took the mound for the Reds. Jazz Chisholm Jr. stepped up first in the second inning. He saw a changeup and crushed it 390 feet to right field. The ball exploded off his bat and sailed over the wall. Crowd went wild. One-zero Yankees. Two outs later, Ben Rice came up and did something incredible. He smashed a fastball 433 feet to center. The ball flew out like a rocket. Spencer Jones scored. Anthony Volpe crossed home. Three runs now. Lowder was in trouble fast.
Lowder Battles Through Five Innings of Struggle
Rhett Lowder kept fighting for Cincinnati even after that rough second inning. He pitched through five and one-third innings, giving up four runs on six hits. The Reds' offense just couldn't find their swing. Eugenio Suarez struck out three times at the plate. Spencer Steer went zero for four with two strikeouts. Tyler Stephenson went down swinging twice in three at-bats. JJ Bleday whiffed three times and couldn't help. Matt McLain also struck out twice with no hits. Edwin Arroyo added another strikeout to the pile. Blake Dunn was Cincinnati's only bright spot, going two for three. But one player hitting well wasn't enough. The Yankees' pitcher Cam Schlittler was absolutely dominant. He threw six full innings without allowing a single run. Thirteen strikeouts in one night. The Reds couldn't catch up.
Yankees Close It Out Behind Masterful Pitching
The Yankees' bullpen sealed the victory in the eighth inning. Anthony Volpe added one more insurance run when he singled to left with Jazz Chisholm Jr. scoring from second base. One more run crossed the plate. Five to nothing. Game over. The Yankees' pitching was untouchable all night. Jake Bird threw one inning of relief with two strikeouts. Brent Headrick added another inning. David Bednar came in for the final frame with two more strikeouts. Cincinnati never stood a chance. New York improved to 45-28 with this dominant victory. The Reds fell to 35-38, still searching for answers. This was a complete shutout. The Yankees' arms were simply too strong. Lowder took the loss for Cincinnati. The Reds' offense couldn't produce runs against New York's elite pitching staff. The night belonged entirely to the Yankees.
