Stewart and Lowe Trade Blows Early
The Reds visited PNC Park ready to fight back after losing 6-4 the night before. Cincinnati struck first in the first inning. Sal Stewart crushed a fastball from Jared Jones over the right field wall for a solo home run. The ball rocketed 372 feet into the Pittsburgh sky—1-0 Reds. But the Pirates answered right back in the bottom of the third. Brandon Lowe stepped up and launched a changeup deep to right. The blast soared 396 feet and cleared the bases. Triolo and Mangum both scored on that three-run bomb. Just like that, Pittsburgh led 3-1. The game was already wild, and we were only three innings in. Both teams wanted this win badly.
Reds Climb Back with Timely Hitting
Cincinnati didn't quit. In the top of the fifth, Edwin Arroyo doubled down the left field line and Myers raced home. The infield single by Stewart brought another run across. The Reds suddenly led 4-3. Then in the sixth inning, Jose Trevino smashed a single to right that scored both Marte and Steer. Cincinnati pushed ahead 6-4 and the bats were blazing. But Pittsburgh's lineup fought back hard. Triolo singled in Rodriguez. Lowe hit a sacrifice fly to score Triolo. O'Hearn delivered a single that brought home Reynolds. The Pirates tied it 6-6 and the momentum swung back toward home plate.
Suarez Walks Off Pirates with Final Blast
The game stayed deadlocked at 6-6 heading into the eighth. Then Pittsburgh's Esmerlyn Valdez smashed a home run over the right-center field wall 381 feet. Pittsburgh took a 7-6 lead and the home crowd erupted. Everything came down to the ninth inning. Cincinnati's bats weren't finished. Gregory Soto wound up on the mound for the Pirates. Eugenio Suarez stepped into the box with two outs. He saw what he wanted—a 97 mph sinker right in his zone. Suarez ripped it to right field. The ball sailed 344 feet and cleared the wall. The blast brought both Arroyo and Bleday across the plate. Cincinnati 9, Pittsburgh 7. Final. The Reds improved to 39-42 and claimed the game on the road.
