Houston Dominates in a Run-Fest at Home
The Guardians came to Houston looking to bounce back. They'd lost the night before and needed a win. But the Astros had other plans. The game was played at Minute Maid Park on Saturday, June 20. It was a battle between two teams fighting for playoff spots. Cleveland's pitching staff, usually their strength, would be tested today. Houston's Tatsuya Imai took the mound for the home team. Tanner Bibee started for Cleveland. The Astros were rolling with three straight wins. The Guardians were struggling, sitting at 40-36 on the season. The Astros won big, 9-3. This game would be all about the power hitters showing up when it counted most.
Rocchio and Hoskins Strike Early for Cleveland
Cleveland got on the board first in the third inning. Brayan Rocchio stepped up and drove a slider to right field. The ball flew out as a double, and Travis Bazzana scored easily. The Guardians were up 1-0. But the fun was just starting. Rhys Hoskins came up next. He worked the count and got a slider he liked. He turned on it with everything he had. The ball rocketed over the left field wall and sailed 376 feet into the night sky. Rocchio crossed home. Hoskins rounded the bases. Cleveland now led 3-1. Houston answered back immediately when Jeremy Peña crushed one to left field for a solo shot. The inning ended with the Guardians still ahead by one run.
Astros Explode Late with Pena and Altuve Leading the Way
Houston stormed back in the sixth inning. Matt Festa came in to pitch for Cleveland. Jose Altuve stepped up with runners on. He swung hard and launched a fastball over the left field wall. The ball cleared at 349 feet. Altuve's three-run bomb made it 5-3. Houston took the lead. The seventh inning brought even more damage. Jeremy Peña came to bat and didn't waste time. He crushed another fastball into left field. The solo shot put Houston up 6-3. Then Altuve came back up. He doubled into left, and Yordan Alvarez raced home. Houston led 7-3. In the eighth, Jake Meyers doubled and scored another run. Peña singled him home. The final run came next. Houston dominated late. The Astros won 9-3. Cleveland's pitchers gave up too many hits in key moments.
