Guardians travel to Miller Park seeking turnaround
The Cleveland Guardians rolled into Milwaukee on a two-game winning streak, but they were banged up. Star third baseman Jose Ramirez sat out with a broken hamate bone in his hand. Right fielder Chase DeLauter missed time with rib cage bruises. These injuries cut deep into their lineup. The Brewers, sitting pretty at 43-26, hosted the Guardians at American Family Field. Milwaukee was hungry after winning their last game. Cleveland came in at 39-33, fighting to stay close in the American League Central. Both teams knew this matchup mattered. The Guardians' pitching depth was their strength all season long. Slade Cecconi took the mound for Cleveland, ready to keep the game tight. The Brewers countered with Robert Gasser on the bump. You could feel the tension as the first pitch flew.
Turang launches, Arias answers back fast
Brice Turang stepped up in the fourth inning with one out. Slade Cecconi threw a 78-mile-per-hour curve that missed. Then came an 83-mile-per-hour changeup—another ball. Turang was looking for something to hit, and Cecconi gave it to him. The Brewers' dynamic second baseman crushed it to right-center. The ball rocketed 409 feet into the air and cleared the wall. Milwaukee led 1-0. The Guardians didn't quit though. Gabriel Arias came through in the seventh with two outs. Aaron Ashby threw an 82-mile-per-hour curve, and Arias slapped it into right field. Stuart Fairchild raced home from third base. The game was tied at 1-1. You could feel the momentum shifting back and forth.
Mitchell crushes go-ahead shot in bottom seven
The seventh inning brought fireworks. Hunter Gaddis took over pitching duties for Cleveland. Garrett Mitchell stepped to the plate with the bases clear. Gaddis threw an 88-mile-per-hour slider. Mitchell read it perfectly. He swung with his whole body and connected. The ball soared to right-center field—440 feet of pure power. It cleared the wall, and the Brewers took the lead 2-1. Milwaukee held that edge as the game wound down. Trevor Megill came in to close things out. He locked down the final outs, and Milwaukee won 2-1. The Brewers improved to 44-26. Cleveland dropped to 39-34. Losing this one stung for the Guardians after fighting back to tie it up.
