Guardians Strike Early Against Injured Yankees
The Cleveland Guardians visited Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night ready to battle a Yankees team missing their superstar Aaron Judge. Judge sat out with a rib bone bruise that had been bothering him for weeks. The Guardians came in hot with a 1-0 record in their last game. New York was on a losing streak, trying to bounce back after dropping their last game. You could feel the energy shift right from the start. Cleveland was hungry. The Guardians' pitching depth, led by Joey Cantillo, looked sharp early. New York's lineup scrambled without Judge in the lineup. The final score told the story: Cleveland dominated 9-4. The Guardians proved they could win on the road against one of baseball's biggest teams.
Goldschmidt's Power and Ramirez's Clutch Hitting
The scoring exploded in the third inning when Patrick Bailey crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Brayan Rocchio. The Guardians jumped ahead 1-0. But the Yankees answered right back. Paul Goldschmidt crushed a two-run home run that rocketed 386 feet to left field, scoring Ben Rice too. Suddenly it was 2-1 Yankees. Kyle Manzardo wasn't finished. He blasted a 367-foot home run to right-center that scored Jose Ramirez. Cleveland took back the lead 3-2. The Yankees tied it in the fourth when Goldschmidt singled to right, scoring two more runners. Then the Guardians' bats woke up again. Travis Bazzana and Ramirez delivered clutch hits that put Cleveland on top for good. Ramirez was a monster at the plate, getting multiple hits throughout the night.
Guardians Pull Away Late for Dominant Road Victory
By the seventh inning, the Guardians were in total control. Jose Ramirez doubled to left and Rocchio scored on the play. Cleveland led 6-4. The Yankees couldn't keep pace. In the eighth inning, Travis Bazzana delivered the knockout punch. He blasted a double to right field that scored three runners: Steven Kwan, Angel Martinez, and Daniel Schneemann all crossed home plate. The scoreboard now read 9-4 Cleveland. The Guardians' pitching staff shut the door from there. Colin Holderman, Tim Herrin, Hunter Gaddis, Shawn Armstrong, and Matt Festa combined to hold New York silent. Cleveland improved to 36-28 on the season after this big road win. The Yankees dropped to 36-25 despite getting power from Goldschmidt. This victory showed the Guardians could win anywhere.
