Rockies Strike Early, But Astros Take Over
The Colorado Rockies came to Houston ready to bounce back after losing to the Padres 7-2 the day before. They faced the Astros at their home field on Wednesday, April 15, in what turned out to be an exciting back-and-forth battle. Goodman of Colorado smashed a home run 377 feet in the first inning, giving the Rockies an early 1-0 lead. Things got even better for Colorado in the second inning when McCarthy crushed a triple that scored two more runners. The Rockies seemed in control, leading 3-0. However, the Astros had other plans. Walker hit a solo home run to cut the deficit, and Houston's offense was just warming up for a stunning third inning comeback that changed everything about this game.
Astros Explode in the Third Inning
In the third inning, the Houston Astros put on an offensive clinic that completely shifted momentum. Alvarez delivered a crucial double down the right field line that scored two runners. Walker then grounded into a fielder's choice, but Alvarez came home to make it 4-3. Smith singled to right field, scoring Correa, and then an error by Colorado's second baseman gave Walker another chance to score. Vázquez added a single that drove in Smith, extending Houston's lead to 7-3. This inning was relentless for the Astros. Five runs crossed the plate due to hits, a fielder's choice, and defensive mistakes. Colorado's pitching and defense simply couldn't contain the Houston offense's explosive attack during those critical minutes.
Rockies Fight Back Late, But Come Up Short
Colorado refused to give up despite Houston's big third inning. Beck launched a home run in the fourth inning to make the score 7-4. Goodman added another solo shot in the fifth inning, bringing the Rockies within two runs at 7-5. The Rockies showed tremendous heart and determination throughout the game. In the eighth inning, Johnston singled and scored, narrowing the gap to 7-6. Despite their efforts to come back, Colorado simply couldn't overcome the damage from that explosive third inning. The final score was 7-6 Houston. Though the Rockies played well and never quit fighting, they fell short against the Astros. This loss dropped Colorado's record to 6-11, while Houston improved to 7-11 with an important victory at home.
