Goodman Goes Yard Early as Rockies Strike First
The Rockies rolled into Target Field in Minnesota ready to battle the Twins. Colorado came in struggling at 32-50, while the Twins sat at 39-44. The night before, Minnesota had beaten Colorado in a close one. But on this Saturday night, the Rockies had different plans.
Hunter Goodman stepped up in the first inning and watched a 93-mile-per-hour fastball whiz by. Mike Paredes, the Twins pitcher, then threw an 80-mile-per-hour sweeper. Goodman crushed it. The ball sailed over the left field wall and traveled 428 feet. One swing, one run. Colorado led 1-0. The Rockies' young catcher was on fire tonight.
The Twins answered right back in their half of the first. Kody Clemens singled into center field. Trevor Larnach scored easily from second base. The score was tied 1-1. This game was going to be a back-and-forth battle.
Goodman Takes Over in the Middle Innings
Goodman wasn't done yet. In the third inning, Paredes threw him a 94-mile-per-hour fastball right down the middle. Goodman connected again. The ball rocketed to center field and cleared the wall another 428 feet. He'd homered twice in one game. Colorado led 2-1.
The Rockies kept pushing. In the fifth inning, Jake McCarthy scored on a ground ball hit by Mickey Moniak. That made it 3-1. Then in the sixth, Victor Caratini lifted a sacrifice fly for Minnesota. Josh Bell scored. The Twins pulled within 3-2. Colorado was barely hanging on.
But the seventh inning changed everything. Goodman smashed his third home run of the night. McCarthy and Ezequiel Tovar scored ahead of him. Colorado exploded for three runs. The scoreboard read 6-2. Goodman had five RBIs already. He was unstoppable.
Karros Adds Insurance as Rockies Escape with Victory
The Rockies weren't finished. In the eighth inning, Kyle Karros stepped up to face Marco Raya's 95-mile-per-hour fastball. Karros swung hard and sent it over the left field wall. Cole Carrigg scored ahead of him. Colorado was now up 8-2. The Rockies had built real separation.
Minnesota made one last push in the ninth. Trevor Larnach doubled into center field. Three runs crossed the plate. The Twins pulled within 8-5. But it wasn't enough. The rally stopped there. Colorado held on and won 8-5. The Rockies improved to 32-50. Minnesota dropped to 39-44. Goodman's three-home-run show was the difference. Michael Lorenzen earned the win. The Rockies had stolen one on the road.
