Rockies vs. Padres: Friday night opener
The Rockies visited the Padres at Petco Park on Friday, April 10. San Diego won the game 7–3 after a long, exciting night. Colorado started with Jimmy Herget on the mound, while Randy Vasquez took the hill for San Diego. The game began with a big moment in the third inning and then turned into a back-and-forth battle. Both teams used bullpen arms as the game stretched late into extra innings. Fans saw clutch hits, small plays that mattered, and a dramatic final inning that decided the winner. The night felt tense and thrilling from first pitch to last out.
Early action and extra innings push
Early in the game the Rockies struck first in the third inning. Doyle hit a home run to center that traveled 408 feet and gave Colorado a 1–0 lead. San Diego answered in the bottom of the third when Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a sacrifice fly that brought Fermin home to tie it 1–1. Both starters kept the score close while relievers made key outs. The game stayed tied through nine innings, which led to extra frames. In the tenth and eleventh innings each team traded runs and pressure built, so both bullpens needed to stay sharp as the night stretched on.
Late heroics and the decisive inning
In the tenth and eleventh innings the teams kept trading important hits. Freeman singled in the tenth and cut San Diego's lead to 2–1 before Machado tied it with a sac fly. In the eleventh Sullivan doubled to score Karros and make it 3–2 for Colorado, but Campusano answered with a double to tie the game again at 3–3. The game finally ended in the twelfth when Xander Bogaerts hit a massive three-run homer that cleared the left field fence for a 7–3 Padres lead. As a result San Diego walked away with the win, while Colorado fell to 6–7.
