Rockies–Padres matchup and final score
Sunday at Coors Field in Denver the Colorado Rockies hosted the San Diego Padres. Both teams wanted a win to build momentum. Colorado jumped ahead early and the scoreboard flashed a 4–0 lead after three innings. The final score was San Diego 9, Colorado 5, so the Padres came back and took control. The game had big swings because of several home runs and a big multi-run inning for San Diego. The story unfolded in clear parts: an early Rockies burst, a Padres comeback with long balls, and late insurance runs that sealed the win. Fans saw dramatic hitting and clutch pitching.
Early scoring and first lead
In the first inning the Rockies struck quickly. Moniak crushed a two-run homer to right that landed 384 feet away, and Julien scored as well. That blast made it 2–0 and the crowd roared. In the third inning Julien followed with his own homer to left center, then Moniak homered again later that inning to make it 4–0. Those long balls showed Colorados power early, although pitching in Denver can be tricky. The Rockies used strong swings and hit the ball hard, creating a gap the Padres had to close. Early offense set the scene for a tense comeback battle later.
Padres comeback and game ending moments
San Diego answered in the bottom of the third with two big plays that changed the game. Merrill grounded a fielders choice that scored Laureano, then Machado launched a two-run homer to cut the deficit to 4–3. The Padres then took the lead in the fourth when Laureano hit a three-run homer to make it 6–4. Later, Tatis Jr. walk and Merrills double in the sixth added two more runs, pushing the score to 9–4. Colorado added a run in the eighth when Moniak singled, but those late runs were only a consolation. The Padres offense finished strong and closed the game.
